Our former President Donald Trump just did an interview indicating that he might not participate in the Republican presidential debates. Here is what he said on WABC 770:
“I’m leading by 40 points. A lot of people say, ‘Why would you do a debate when you have people at two and three and fifteen and fourteen [percent]? People don’t debate when they have these massive leads. They say, ‘Why would we debate?’ I would have a hostile group of anchors — a hostile network — asking questions. Why would I do that?”
Has he gone Biden? Is Trump going to hide in the basement like Biden?
Fox News is no longer carrying his rallies. Why wouldn’t he want this exposure? This is a bad move that undermines his brash brand.
For our former president to claim that he is 40 points ahead so he doesn’t need to debate, unfortunately, does not ring true. That’s a lot of Pinocchios! Right now, his super PAC is running millions of dollars of commercials attacking Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis. First, it was ads attacking DeSantis for voting to limit entitlements, which I always thought was the GOP position. Second, they aired ads attacking Ron on pudding. Now, they are running commercials saying that DeSantis is too Trump.
If Trump is running away with the primary, why is his super PAC attacking fellow conservative Republican DeSantis nonstop? It is easy to conclude that DeSantis is an electoral threat to Trump. Hence, our former president is pulling a Biden by not wanting to debate.
In 2016, Trump did a great job in the debates against fellow Republicans and Hillary Clinton. No one can deny that fact. However, in 2020, he lost the first debate against the bumbling idiot Biden which hurt his reelection. Trump did better in the next debate, but by then, it was too late, with so many people already having voted by mail and early voting.
So, would GOP primary debates have helped Trump better prepare for the 2020 election? Maybe.
Furthermore, what message does this send out if Trump won’t debate? Does this enable candidates like John Fetterman? The media allowed Fetterman to avoid debating in the beginning of October before Pennsylvania had began early voting in order to avoid him being exposed as mentally incompetent. If there had been a series of debates, then Dr. Oz would be in the United States Senate today. If Trump won’t debate, every ill-prepared Democrat can say “Trump would not debate so I don’t need to debate.”
In my home state of Massachusetts, the Trump candidate for governor did one debate and lost it. He refused all other primary debates, even televised ones. He went on to lose the governorship, only earning 32% of the vote. Due to his poor performance, Republicans lost seats and two ballot questions.
Not debating has consequences! And they are not good for the GOP.
Trump saying that the moderators are slanted is correct. They are! However, a debate gives voters the chance to hear directly from the candidate. There is no media spin coming between the candidate and the audience. Debates take away some of the power of the liberal media, because the viewers hear answers directly from the candidate’s mouth. A candidate doesn’t have to answer a biased question. They can point out the faults with the question and then speak to the voters directly about why other issues really matter. Look at how President Ronald Reagan changed the whole narrative when he got the age question from an unfriendly moderator. Reagan won the night with his answer.
If Trump wants to be our nominee, he owes it to us to debate so we know his future plans for our nation and that he is well prepared to take on Biden. We cannot take another four years of Biden in the White House! Trump’s looking like he is chickening out of debates is another reason I am going with Ron instead of Don this time.

Trump doesn’t need to debate the other candidates. We, the people, already know where he stands on the issues. He debated a bunch of candidates before he was elected in 2016. And as president for 4 years, Trump did what no politician has ever done in the past – he kept his word and carried through with virtually everything he promised!
I’m sure he’ll keep doing campaign appearances around the country. With Fox News getting rid of Tucker Carlson, no one cares if they don’t carry Trump’s rallies anymore. Fox’s viewership is sinking faster than the Titanic. There are a good selection of other venues to catch Trump besides Fox News. Come to think of it though, I’ll bet Fox DOES end up covering Trump, just to try and get back a few viewers. It might keep Fox on life-support for a little while longer.
Above and beyond all however, anybody that has to wonder if Trump is prepared well enough to take on Biden is evidently out of touch with reality.
I can see this from both sides; first Trump is leading by a mile, second some of the candidates are from the establishment and have 0 chance of being elected President so they have one job and only one a suicide mission to take out Trump (Yes I’m specifically referring to Haley Christie and Hutchinson I am sure I’ll add to this list as others get in the race) additionally these RINO’s will be 100% supported by RNC (Romney’s Neice) and the various news organizations I’ll bet NEWSMAX Doesn’t get to participate in any debate.
On the other hand I’m absolutely certain that Trump would destroy not only the RINO’s in a debate but destroy the ‘moderators’ if they get involved
The author of this article is diffidently a liberal or at the least a RINO. Republicans are not for reducing entitlements. Only to take corruption out of them. The liberals always accuse us of wanting to do that but that is not the truth !!
It won’t make any difference if Trump joins the debates or not, if he is the GOP candidate the democrats will win, even if they stick with Biden. The hate for Trump is too deep and wide across this country for him to ever win an election again. His mouth is his own worse enemy.I voted for him in both 2016 and 2020 but I could not bring myself to vote for him a third time, or to even think about voting for that senile old fool Biden. I will vote for no one for president if that turns out to be my choices..
