Migrant children admitted into the United States by the Biden administration, many under the care of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, are being trafficked and forced into illegal child labor, The New York Times reports.
Now members of Congress are demanding answers and accountability.
U.S. House Education & the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Mich., and Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, R-Ore., are now asking Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su to turn over information about reports migrant children are being trafficked and working illegally in the United States.
“The New York Times published an article describing… concerns that many children are being trafficked and forced to work illegally following their release from federal custody,” the lawmakers write.
“The article highlights the government’s failure to protect these children by demonstrating a breakdown between HHS, the agency responsible for sheltering these children while they are in federal custody… and DOL, the agency responsible for ensuring these children are not exploited in employment after they have left federal custody,” the letter continues.
The lawmakers point out that not only must the Biden administration uphold the law, but it must protect children and cannot participate in illegal activity itself.
“This matter is especially troubling because a breakdown in government responsibility has led to the trafficking of migrant children in violation of our nation’s human trafficking and child labor laws. Therefore, it is important for the Committee to understand what information DOL provided to HHS and DHS as well as whether these agencies are working together to keep migrant children out of harm’s way,” the letter adds.
The members conclude by requesting several documents, including:
* All documents and communications transmitted between DOL, HHS, and DHS regarding the vetting of sponsors or possible sponsors of migrant children leaving federal custody;
* All documents and communications transmitted between DOL and state law enforcement officials regarding reports of sponsors exploiting migrant children;
* All documents and communications transmitted to or received from any other federal agency—including the White House, the Domestic Policy Council, and the Department of Justice—following DOL’s recognition of the increase in migrant child labor;
* All information in DOL’s or the DOL-led Interagency Taskforce to Combat Child Labor Exploitation’s possession pertaining to any federal employee who has been found to have supported child labor trafficking, covered up instances of child labor trafficking, or attempted to silence the reporting of possible instances of child labor trafficking to appropriate federal law enforcement;
* The number of migrant children who have been identified by DOL as victims of child labor trafficking who were at any point under the care of HHS’ Unaccompanied Children (UC) Program; and
* A list of investigations and details regarding the investigations conducted by DOL that involve victims of child labor trafficking who were previously under the care of the UC Program.

Would it not be prudent to allow younger children to work in safe environments and ease the limits of hours that they all are allowed to work. Building a work ethic should start before puberty, I think! I started at 12 delivering “The Shopping News” in Detroit and made 2 cents for each of the 200 papers I delivered, once a week. I cannot believe how much it helped me understand the meaning of making money.
That has nothing to do with trafficking by illegals who are sneaking the kids over the border !

When he was President, we had a secure border and for the first time I can recall, Mexico was cooperating with us with a 20,000 man army helping. What do we have now? Absolutely NOTHING! We were once a sovereign nation. That is no longer the case. This country is now being overrun with terrorists, criminals, and other wrongdoer types. You have no idea how I hope I’m wrong, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This might seem cold, but it just might want to make those ILLEGAL ALIENS go back to where they came from. I recall that when I was 16 way back in the late ‘3s and early ’40s I had to get work permits. Is that just another law Biden has decided we don’t need? The people breaking the law of the land by simply being here are unskilled and uneducated. quite a number of years ago we had the Brasero program. Workers would come to Mexico and work in the fields and orchards in California. It worked quite well. Cheap labor, it was required that money be sent home to support families, and we had plenty fo produce. Sure, there were problems, but nothing is perfect. What do we have now?
