Bob Good, a prominent Republican congressman from Virginia, was ejected from a pro-Trump event in his home state in an incident described as “very embarrassing” by eyewitnesses.
Footage posted to social media shows Good, the chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, speaking with Karen Angulo, a former county GOP chair and business owner, before she asks him to leave the premises.
In a statement, Angulo addressed the incident, “We invited our state Senator John McGuire as a special guest because John has been a supporter of President Trump and never wavered, unlike Bob Good.”
“I repeatedly asked Bob to leave. Once he finally relented and left our store, Bob and his paid campaign staff stood out front for over four hours trying to block people from entering our store. The whole thing was very embarrassing behavior for anyone, let alone a sitting Member of Congress,” Angulo added.
At one point during the video, Good reads from the email inviting all Trump-supporting Republicans to the event.
State Sen. McGuire, who is running against Good for his seat, can be heard talking with someone in the background of the video.
Shortly after his election to the Virginia Senate, McGuire announced his intention to challenge Good to represent the people of Virginia's 5th District in Congress.
In an email to supporters, McGuire, a Navy SEAL-turned-entrepreneur expressed his disappointment with the supposedly conservative Good. Good, McGuire wrote, “has failed us time and time again.” The state senator added that Good voted for Kevin McCarthy, before throwing “a temper tantrum,” flip-flopping on McCarthy and allowing House Republicans to fall into a state of dysfunction “costing us the 2023 elections.”
McGuire also claimed that Good “abandoned” former President Donald Trump by endorsing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the Republican presidential primaries.
After DeSantis suspended his campaign, Good endorsed Trump.
