Automaker Issues Recall For Defect That Could Cause Drivers To Lose Control

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 115,000 of its popular Super Duty trucks — including F-250, F-350, and F-450 models from 2020 and 2021 — due to a defect that could cause the upper shaft of the steering column to detach. The announcement comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which warned that this issue could result in a sudden loss of steering control.

For many hardworking Americans — farmers, contractors, ranchers, and small business owners — these trucks aren’t just vehicles, they’re vital tools for daily life. A problem of this magnitude isn’t just about inconvenience; it’s about safety, reliability, and trust in one of the most iconic names in American auto manufacturing.

Details of the Recall

  • Vehicles impacted: 115,539 Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 models (2020–2021 model years).
  • Defect: The steering column’s upper shaft can separate, potentially leaving drivers unable to control the vehicle.
  • NHTSA statement: Loss of steering control poses a serious risk of crashes, making immediate repairs essential.
  • Remedy: Ford dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair or replace the faulty part at no cost to owners.
  • Recall reference: Ford’s number for the recall is 25S94. Vehicle owners can check their VIN at NHTSA.gov to confirm if their truck is affected.

Broader Concerns About Ford Recalls

This announcement follows a series of recent Ford recalls that have raised eyebrows:

  • 1.9 million vehicles worldwide recalled for defective rearview cameras that can show distorted or blank images.
  • In August 2024, Ford recalled over 355,000 trucks in the U.S. due to dashboard display malfunctions.

For many consumers, these repeated recalls may raise questions about quality control and management at one of America’s oldest automakers.

The recall comes after Ford announced it is moving its headquarters out of its iconic “Glass House” building in Dearborn, Michigan.

The Glass House was built in 1956 and is scheduled for demolition over the course of approximately 18 months.

“This is more than just a new building; it’s a catalyst for innovation and a physical symbol of our Ford+ transformation,” Bill Ford and Jim Farley said in a letter to employees. “To win in this new era, we must work more closely together than ever before.”

The new building will be called the new Ford World Headquarters and, at 2.1 million square feet, is twice the size of the Glass House. The new site is intended to bring employees from the company’s engineering, design and technology teams together in one location.
