Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

A dramatic confrontation at a New Jersey Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility on Friday is resulting in a federal investigation and potential criminal charges against three Democratic members of Congress. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Representatives LaMonica McIver, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Rob Menendez Jr. may face legal consequences after allegedly storming the Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark alongside Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who was arrested and charged with trespassing.

The incident unfolded during what the lawmakers described as an unannounced oversight visit. DHS officials, however, claim the delegation—accompanied by a group of demonstrators—forced entry into a restricted area during the arrival of a detainee transport bus. The agency alleges that a female ICE officer was assaulted in the scuffle, with body camera footage reportedly capturing Rep. McIver “body-slamming” the officer. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated on Fox News that arrests for the lawmakers remain “on the table,” adding, “Just because you are a member of Congress or a public official does not mean you are above the law.”

Footage released by DHS appears to show McIver, clad in a red blazer, forcefully pushing through law enforcement officers near the facility’s gate. McIver and Watson Coleman, however, insist they were the ones assaulted. McIver wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) that she was shoved and that Watson Coleman was “manhandled,” pushing back against DHS’s assertion that the lawmakers initiated the chaos.

At one point in the footage that has been made public, McIver is seen, shouting, “I touch whoever I want, motherf*****!”

ICE maintains that the detention center houses high-risk individuals—including murderers, child rapists, and MS-13 gang members—and accused the delegation of endangering public safety by interfering with facility operations.

Mayor Baraka, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, was handcuffed and detained for five hours before being charged with trespassing. His attorneys called the arrest “unjustified” and said the mayor was peacefully exercising his First Amendment rights.

In an X post Friday, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba wrote, “The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.”

Baraka’s attorneys also accused Habba of making politically charged and “inflammatory” remarks.

Throw her ass in jail and throw away the keys. And anyone else who interferes with L.E,. doing their jobs, should pay the piper as well.

Don’t understand why the Dems are so intent on allowing the illegal criminals freedom.

Not happy with what our President is doing, overall, but his deporting of illegals is a good thing. Getting the illegals and criminals out of the U.S. and down to El Salvadore, is economically sound as well. A plane ticket costs a lot less than keeping a prisoner fed, clothed, housed and healthy, here in the U.S.!

What are you “UNHAPPY” about what he is doing?

The man has been in office for THREE MONTHS, and it appears that some people want him to solve the problems created during FOUR YEARS OF HELL the bedwetter Biden and scarred heels Kamala created during their four years in the office hey STOLE in 2020
There is no question hat STOLEN ELECTIONS have great consequences, and this one just about sank America .

      “They” should be prosecuted.
I know that I saw that BIG FAT congresswoman in the red coat put her hands on a female agent; while did NOT witness this, it is reported that this same woman BODY SLAMMED a female Federal agent. who attempted to stop her rom entering a restricted area. IF this is so, she definitely needs to be prosecuted.

At ANY RATE they must ALL be charged with with UNLWFUL ENTRY. These congress personnel need to ATTEND to the business of THEIR BRANCH; that is PRECISELY why we have three branches
If they want to PROTEST, they MUST leave Congress – they are NOT being paid by the taxpayers to PROTEST, but to REPRESENT THEM !!!

    Gloria Jimenez Ross

It should NOT be a “MAY” face charge’s; it should be they WILL face changes
We all saw that BIG FAT “congresswoman” in a RED COAT attacking a female Federal agent. I don’t care it if was just a TAP; If she had HANDS on the body of another person, it is CONSIDERED an ATTAK and she MUST be prosecuted
We can’t have these congressional members taking the law into their hands, especially when Immigration is totally under the Jurisdiction of the Executive Branch.

It is time for them to DO THEIR JOB, which hey have NO been dong because hey are too busy ADVOCATING for CRIMIINAL ILLEGALS from a minimum of 153 countries that FLOODED the United States at the behest of the CRIMINAL JOE BIDEN who wanted to expose the United States citizens to as much crime and murder as he could before leaving the office he had STOLEN in 2020.

    ahem tonto

They are not above the law! If they are not tried for their actions and imprisoned the rule of law is meaningless.
