House Selects Speaker Nominee

-

On Wednesday, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise won the Republican nomination to become the next Speaker.

Scalise secured the nomination 113-99 in a closed-door GOP conference meeting, defeating House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in a close race that did not have a clear front-runner heading into the internal vote.

“I've got a long history of bringing people together, uniting Republicans, focusing on the issues that we've got to do to address the issues we came here to do to get our country back on track,” Scalise told Fox Business in an interview Tuesday.

Republican Reps. Frank Lucas (Okla.), Ashley Hinson () and John James (Mich.) officially nominated Scalise for Speaker in the closed-door meeting, according to a source familiar.

Scalise will now take his candidacy to the House floor, where he will be up against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), who Democrats nominated for Speaker on Tuesday night.

Last week, eight House Republicans voted alongside Democrats to oust from the position.

Prior to Wednesday's vote, Rep. told reporters he was confident he would secure enough votes to win the gavel. (RELATED: Speaker Candidate Expresses Confidence In Bid As Republicans Deliberate)

“Our momentum has been growing. I feel like we have the votes to do it – and not only do it today, but to go up on the House floor and get 218 votes, and then get back to work for the American people that elected us,” he said.

  1. Big mistake! Scalise is too wishy washy to be an effective leader of conservatives. I see more capitulation to the Biden agenda as the result of this choice.

  2. Are these 3 holdouts idiots? If their antics enable Jeffries to become speaker, I hope the Party primaries them in the next election cycle

  3. Oh, joy. A majority of RINOs (you know, the ones that do nothing about Biden and Kackles destroying our country) elect one of their own to be speaker.

Plenty of disgust (but no surprise) on my part.
