ANALYSIS – Joe Biden may be getting closer to being impeached by the Republican-led House. Or at least it seems that way. But should he be impeached?
On Tuesday Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) reportedly told a select congressional group meeting in his office that he’s “moving closer” to opening an ‘impeachment inquiry,’ though not quite yet.
This is the second time in two days that McCarthy has stated he is seriously considering the move against Biden.
On Monday night he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that the GOP House investigations into Biden and his family are “rising to the level of impeachment inquiry.”
And as The Washington Post reported, much of the impetus for this comes from the White House stonewalling investigations against Biden. But some of it also stems from the evidence that has been discovered so far.
An impeachment inquiry would give Republicans “the full power to get the information they need,” McCarthy said. And that additional evidence could be damning.
But McCarthy notes that launching an inquiry — which would open a House investigation into whether Biden committed ‘high crimes and misdemeanors’ — is not the same as voting to impeach Biden.
“Impeachment inquiry is not impeachment,” McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday. The inquiry would have to show there are sufficient grounds for a vote on articles of impeachment against Biden.
Still, it is serious stuff, and McCarthy isn’t likely to be publicly discussing it unless he is seriously considering it.
And unlike Democrats’ first partisan impeachment of Donald Trump, over a phone call, this inquiry would be dealing with sustained political corruption of the highest order.
McCarthy emphasized that Biden has “used something we have not seen since Richard Nixon,” he has “used the weaponization of government to benefit his family and deny Congress the ability to have oversight.”
This won’t, and shouldn’t be, a purely partisan stunt, as the Democrats want to portray it.
The Chairman of the Democrat National Committee (DNC), Jaime Harrison dismissed McCarthy’s impeachment inquiry talk, calling it “another political stunt intended to help Trump, which House Republicans have already admitted.”
But Republicans seem to believe they have plenty to go on. Referring to his discussions with Speaker McCarthy, House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) told reporters Tuesday:
I told him what we’re sitting on, and I told him the next steps. And I think he felt confident enough [on Monday] on the Hannity show to say that we’re taking the preliminary steps towards impeachment inquiry.
Members of the Freedom Caucus praised McCarthy for inching toward impeachment.
“At bare minimum, we should be doing an impeachment inquiry to determine whether we should go forward with impeachment or not,” said Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.).
And former Speaker Newt Gingrich agrees with the idea of an inquiry, but not an actual impeachment of Biden. “It’s a good idea to go to the inquiry stage,” Gingrich said.
But “impeachment itself is a terrible idea.”
“The only short-term consequence of a successful impeachment [of Biden] is [Vice President] Kamala Harris [becoming president], and Kamala would be such a total disaster for the country that Biden’s corruption is probably preferable to her incompetence,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Republican senators seem to agree with Gingrich. “It’s getting to be a habit around here,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Tex.), referring to Trump’s 2019 and 2021 impeachments.
“I think the best way to change the presidency is win the election,” said the Senate’s number two Republican, John Thune (R-S.D.).
True, but if the country can at least see via an impeachment inquiry how corrupt Biden and his family are, winning in 2024 will be a lot easier.

Exactly what high crimes and misdemeanors does Biden have to commit before you do the job that is needed and impeach him? And how long will you allow the members of his Cabinet to shirk their responsibility and violate their oaths of office before you impeach their incompetent and corrupt derelict behinds.
Move the needle, do something besides pontificate and whine.
This guy should have been impeached already. Instead of tip-toeing through the tulips, we need to get rid of all the Democrats and as many RINOs as we can starting with the 2024 elections.
I don’t trust McCarthy and never will. He was mentored by Paul “Rino” Ryan who taught him exactly how to lie time after time and get away with it like Ryan did. Ryan had everyone believing he was a conservative but every time he was pushed to prove it he would as per usual “CAVE” to the demoncRAT. At every opportunity he promised to “defund Planned Parenthood” it still hasn’t happened. At every opportunity he told us he would fix the budget process. It never happened. In fact Ryan’s standard solution was to pass the “continuing resolution” which always gave the demoncRATS exactly what THEY wanted. McCarthy should be pulled out and sent home.
Somehow, I get an uneasy feeling so many RINO trash is in the House of Representatives, if impeached, Biden will be found not guilty and walk. I truly hope I’m wrong.

“Investigate” Harris at the same time with a quick followup impeachment for both of them at the same time or at least expose the democrats and RINO’s in congress for what they are, criminals protecting criminals.
