Former Congressman Justin Amash has officially announced his decision to run for Senate in Michigan on social media.
A Republican-turned-independent, Amash had been weighing a Senate run in Michigan as a Republican.
Calling the GOP field “uninspired, unserious and unprepared,” Amash announced last month that he would be forming an exploratory committee.
Incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow announced last year that she would not seek reelection in 2024. She most recently won reelection in 2018 with 52.3% of the vote.
The latest RealClearPolitics polling average shows a 3.6-point lead for former President Trump over President Biden in Michigan.
