Ohio Congressman Announces Bid For House Speaker

On Wednesday, House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) announced he is running to become the next Speaker of the House. Jordan is the first lawmaker to announce his candidacy for the role.

Jordan said that he would step up to run for the job. plan to hold a candidate forum next Tuesday and an election the following day.

On Tuesday, the House voted 216 to 210 to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a historic move.

Multiple Republican lawmakers have floated the possibility of nominating to replace McCarthy as speaker, and Trump stated that he would do what is “best for the country and the .”

“A lot of people have been asking me about it,” Trump said. He added that there are other “great people” in the GOP who could handle the job, however.

“My total focus is on being president,” Trump said.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) threw his support behind Jordan.

“When it comes to negotiating on behalf of the House GOP Majority with the Senate and White House, I can't think of anyone stronger than @Jim_Jordan to be our next Speaker of the House. He never backs down and has my full support,” Banks wrote on X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), meanwhile, is supporting current Majority Leader (R-La.) for Speaker and making calls to earn support to be the next majority leader.

  1. I think Jim Jordan is an excellent candidate for the Speaker’s position. He is not afraid to speak up on issues and I think he would do a good job of bringing the Republicans together … something McCarthy did not do well.

    He’s got my blessings to be speaker, also.

  3. Music to my ears !! As an honest lawyer Jordan pulls no punches and knows how congress works. Also not afraid to say NO, NO WAY which we need a lot of today. Oh yeah – isn’t he on the Biden investigation??? I’M LOVING THIS
