Rand Paul Doubts Capitol Physician’s Diagnosis Of Mitch McConnell

's colleague from Kentucky is disputing the Senate minority leader's diagnosis.

Sen. spoke out after the Capitol physician medically cleared Sen. McConnell. According to a statement released Tuesday, tests and consultations determined that McConnell does not have a seizure disorder nor suffered a following his latest freezing episode. Mediaite reports:

Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States , released a medical statement on Tuesday after running several evaluations on McConnell and consulting with neurologists. Monahan determined there was “no evidence” that McConnell has Parkinson's disease, nor did he have a stroke or seizure during his recent press events.

McConnell's health has drawn renewed public focus due to two incidents with reporters where he suddenly became incapable of speaking, necessitating interventions from his aides and colleagues. While Monahan gave McConnell a clean bill of health, Senator Paul — a licensed ophthalmologist who graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine — had apparent disagreements with the diagnosis of his fellow Kentucky representative.

“I think it's an inadequate explanation to say this is dehydration,” Paul said. “It doesn't look like dehydration to me. It looks like a focal neurologic event. That doesn't mean it's incapacitating, it doesn't mean he can't serve, but it means that somebody ought to wake up and say, ‘Wow! This looks like a seizure.'”

“I think it'd be better to be forthcoming about what's going on with health problems,” Paul concluded.

Other conservative senators have publicly discussed McConnell's health, breaking from their allies who have closed ranks around their embattled leader. (RELATED: McConnell Responds To Retirement Reports)

Axios reported Sen. (R-Mo.) comparing President Biden to McConnell. First noting concerns about Biden's mental and physical health, Hawley said he's “concerned about the president's health, I'm concerned about the minority leader's health. You can't have it both ways”:

I've just been home for a month, I was asked all over the state, I mean all over the state, about the minority leader,” Hawley said. “And this was before the most recent episode, and then absolutely after it.”

  1. McConnel is a dinosaur, way past his time.Get rid of this incompetent, dumbocrap loving jerk.If he doesn’t go,u will never win another election.Wake up.and wise repukes. He is part of the problem, not part the solution.

    • If he retires, the KY gov will not commit to replacing him with another Republican (meaning he’ll appoint a Democrat instead). Is that what you want?

      • Governor is up for re-election in Nov. Maybe KY will wise up and elect a Republican this time. Then McConnell can be dealt with.

  2. Posts gone again. These people are real censors. Don’t trust them as it is obvious they do not believe in liberty. They believe in anarchy or totalitarianism.

  3. I’m not a fan of McConnell. But the priority needs to be his health. If I were him I would be very dissatisfied with a diagnosis as presented. However, I suspect more is known and going on than was presented. Congress having a ‘physician’ pretty much guarantees what they are going to say is steered by politics as opposed to what is true or known.

    • I agree. What else would the same WH doc, who said Biden is perfectly capable of serving, say about McConnell. I agree with Rand Paul.
