Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., announced Wednesday that he plans to introduce legislation to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), arguing that the agency is “beyond reform” and “totally out of control.”
Speaking at a press conference, Thanedar accused ICE of operating without proper oversight and blamed Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for what he described as unchecked misconduct within the agency.
“ICE is totally out of control,” Thanedar said, accusing the agency of “working beyond control” under Noem’s “leadership.”
Thanedar also said he was “proud to have co-sponsored a resolution” calling for Noem’s impeachment, alleging that she misused “taxpayer funds,” lied to the House Homeland Security Committee, and led an agency “that is committing crimes across America.”
“And, we must finally — we must, we must reform ICE, but it looks at this stage folks, ICE is beyond reform,” Thanedar said. “ICE is totally out of control and this week, I intend to introduce a bill to abolish ICE. We need to make ICE go away.”
A press release issued by Thanedar on January 9 confirmed plans to introduce the Abolish ICE Act, legislation that would “dismantle the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and end its current enforcement authority.”
The announcement came days after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Nicole Good during an enforcement operation in Minneapolis. Authorities have said Good weaponized her vehicle during the encounter.
“The tragic death of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, a 37-year-old mother fatally shot by an ICE agent, shows that ICE cannot be reformed and must be abolished,” Thanedar said in a statement. “The Abolish ICE Act is a step toward justice, accountability, and a more humane approach to immigration policy.”
According to reporting cited by Breitbart News, ICE agents were conducting targeted enforcement operations in Minneapolis when a group of individuals attempted to block them. During the confrontation, a woman allegedly used her vehicle to attack agents.
“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism,” DHS wrote.
Secretary Noem has said ICE officers were attempting to push their vehicle out of snow when they were attacked.
“A woman attacked them, and those surrounding them, and attempted to run them over, and ram them with her vehicle,” Noem said. “An officer of ours acted quickly, and defensively shot to protect himself and the people around him.”
Thanedar’s proposal to abolish ICE marks a renewed push by progressive Democrats to dismantle the federal immigration enforcement agency, an effort that has gained renewed attention following the Minneapolis shooting and ongoing clashes between immigration agents and protesters.

I keep reading Good being called a ‘mother’. Was she once married to a man? Before her death, she was the so-called ‘husband’ of that other female, the one who yelled for her to step on the gas when there was an ICE agent in front of her car.
That doesn’t sound much like a woman being a good mother to her kids.
