Senate Impeachment Article Against Mayorkas Fails With Help Of Centrist Republican

-

The United States just killed the first article of impeachment against Department of Homeland Security Secretary , declaring it unconstitutional.

Every Democrat voted the measure unconstitutional; every Republican supported it, with the exception of Alaska Republican , who voted present.

Senate Majority Leader (D-N.Y.) orchestrated the Wednesday afternoon vote to dismiss the first article of impeachment against Mayorkas, an accusation by the GOP-controlled House that the DHS secretary refused to comply with the law.

Schumer argued that the charge did not rise to the level of a high or misdemeanor as defined in Article 2, Section 4 of the Constitution.

Republicans unsuccessfully tried to delay Schumer's effort by adjourning the proceedings against Mayorkas until April 30 and tabling the Democrats' objection.
