Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Zap it and put it in a bag: Inside the military’s response to drones flying over bases. There have been hundreds, perhaps thousands, of drone incursions at remote military installations, drawing little public attention. But they have disrupted sensitive operations.

A critical concern: foreign adversaries have identified a “seam” in the U.S. response to drone surveillance.

Our military can, and has, take down dangerous drones over bases, but outside the wire, local law enforcement is responsible.

And they have limited resources.

FAA announces temporary restrictions on drone flights in New Jersey following influx of sightings.

The US military is sending counter-drone systems to New Jersey military bases. Here’s how the Dronebuster works.

Drones spotted flying near Wright-Patterson AFB again.

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey confirms multiple past drone incursions… by criminals trying to smuggle contraband into a federal prison within the base’s perimeter.

FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense stories ending the week from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEFING – the PDB:

NATIONAL SECURITY

House heaps bipartisan blame on Coast Guard for delays in building Polar Security cutters needed to offset the growing Russian and Chinese activity in the Arctic.

Special ops leaders eye alarming levels of adversary collaboration, both in combat and influence operations, in ways that may require the unique intervention abilities of the special operations community to avoid conflict.

HOMELAND SECURITY

DC Air National Guard will lose F-16 fighter squadron to Maryland as part of stopgap government funding deal.

The US has transferred two Malaysian detainees at the Guantanamo Bay military prison to their home country, after they pleaded guilty to charges related to deadly 2002 bombings in Bali and agreed to testify against the alleged ringleader of that and other attacks.

MAYBE JUST COMMUTE HIS 20 YEAR SENTENCE? – The federal judge who presided over the seditious conspiracy case says pardoning Oath Keepers leader Stewart Rhodes for Capitol riot plot would be ‘frightening’.

US POWER OVERSEAS

What is going on in Syria and what the hell does it mean for US troops on the ground there? The rebel victory has ended the brutal decade-long civil war in Syria. But a lasting peace will require an accepted transition between government and security forces. That will be a tricky tightrope to walk, given the competing factions and interests on the ground.

POLITICS

What Trump could do on day one in the White House.

Donald Trump abruptly rejected a bipartisan plan Wednesday to prevent a Christmastime government shutdown, instead telling House Speaker Mike Johnson to essentially renegotiate — days before a deadline when federal funding runs out.

JUST SAY YES – Senate committee to hold confirmation hearing for defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth on Jan. 14.

Senate finalizes plans for a massive junior enlisted pay boost in 2025 and a 4.5% salary hike for all service members.

Congress demands answers on low testosterone issues among special operators, a deficiency leading to a range of physical and mental health effects that this community has been dealing with on their own for years.

CHINA THREAT

Rampant high-level military corruption may slow China’s ability to one day invade Taiwan, DOD says.

China’s H-20 stealth bomber, similar to the US B-2 bomber, unlikely to ‘debut’ until 2030s, according to US intel. It is unclear if this means its entrance into operational service or just its emergence publicly.

China is expanding its nuclear force, has increased military pressure against Taiwan and has strengthened its ties with Russia over the past year, according to Pentagon report.

China’s drone modernization efforts are close to ‘matching US standards’, Pentagon says.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Trump should make Putin an offer he can’t refuse to end the Ukraine war. Or he can sell out an independent democracy that has heroically been fighting for its very existence by forcing it not only to cede territory, but also to remain neutral and thus risk complete military defeat in the long run.

NATO’s secretary-general says he wants to put Ukraine in a position of strength for any peace talks with Russia.

Pentagon’s assessment of North Koreans fighting in Kursk, rate at which Ukraine is losing ground and how what’s left of nearly $7 billion in funding for Ukraine could be allocated in the waning days of the Biden administration.

North Korea can produce ballistic missiles for Russia to use against Ukraine in matter of months.

SPACE THREAT

US Space Force to test laser communications on a GPS satellite. If successful, this technology could enhance the precision and efficiency of the navigation system used by billions worldwide.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Mauritius wants to rethink a deal with the UK over remote islands housing a key US base. The UK said Wednesday it still plans to hand over a contested Indian Ocean archipelago, which is home to a strategically important military base, to Mauritius, after that country’s new leader backed away from the contentious deal.

US MILITARY

From strikes by uncrewed aerial systems launching precision Hellfire missiles in Afghanistan and Iraq to US Navy ships firing missiles against Houthi targets in the Middle East over the last few years, the US has led the world in precision strike capabilities for decades.
