Let’s be clear about Joe Biden’s formal declaration of candidacy for the 2024 presidential race: he will be the Democratic nominee. The challenges from Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are curiosities. There only potential is to annoy Biden, not defeat him.
With that said, what does Mr. Biden offer the nation if return for another four years in the White House?
In his slick announcement video, Biden promises to continue to “fight for our democracy.” Fight against whom? The “MAGA extremists” who are “lining up to take away those bedrock freedoms.”
Which is another way of saying Biden is running, again, against Donald Trump. It worked the first time, so team Biden would be professionally remiss not to do so again.
But that’s tactical boilerplate – expected and empty. Biden goes further, saying the nation is still in a fight for its “soul,” and that “in the years ahead, we have less freedom or more freedom. More rights. More rights or fewer.”
That’s a much bigger question than team Biden realizes – and it’s one that the handful of true believers in limited, accountable, responsible government have been asking nonstop for decades.
The answer is that neither team blue nor team red has any interest in more freedoms and more rights. Both have no qualms about using state power to proscribe behaviors they believe are harmful – whether it’s drag shows for the right or gun rights for the left.
Neither team red nor team blue is all that interested in making government fiscally responsible. Quite the opposite. Both would spend trillions of additional dollars – many of them borrowed – to fund their respective versions of proper government activity.
Both team red and team blue are increasingly in thrall to their own versions of nationalism – whether it comes through trade restrictions, industrial policy, corporate welfare, closed borders and more.
Joe Biden, then, offers only more of the same, depressing, doleful, costly, statist nostrums wrapped in a gauzy package of nostalgia and personal hubris.
The Republicans? Well…with conservatism dead, populism fully in charge and a deeply troubling authoritarian streak running through its ranks, team red’s offerings are, in their own way, even worse.
For anyone who wants a government that lives within its fiscal and constitutional means, the 2024 elections is shaping up to be yet another in a long string of massive electoral disappointments.
And to understand just how dour our current politics are, compare Biden’s stemwinder to the 1984 Reagan campaign’s “Morning in America” ad. Optimism…remember that? It used to win elections by a landslide.

To have even an iota of pride and confidence in someone like a Totalitarian, corrupt, fake-capitalist, wokeist Biden, you have to be an article writer who’s leftist-leaning, and almost un-American.
Norman Leahy doesn’t seem to understand the left’s thirst for totalitarian control. They’ve completely taken over the Democrat Party, the United States is next. Don’t be fooled, it is the left that is a threat to democracy, both here and abroad.
He also refuses to believe the people did not actually and legally vote Biden into the White House. He gets told it was all on the “up-and-up” and he believes it. Doesn’t sound like he has any real idea of what Conservatives are really about.
The only way Biden, or any other Democrat for that matter, could win against Trump in 2024 is if the oligarchs steal the election………. AGAIN.
I don’t think the writer of this article has even one clue about politics; Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. could win the Dem nomination just with the Kennedy name alone. He has, however, said some things that indicate he is calling out the deep state criminals and that he aims to unseat them and get rid of them. That is exactly what Trump wants to do and that is also what the majority of Americans want. RFK and DJT understand this, while Joe Biden doesn’t even know what age he is or where he is. The writer of this article has even less clue than Biden it seems as to what is going on with the American people if he thinks Biden is a shoe-in. My cat could do better in predicting who will win the Dem nomination.
Before voting, when people ask themselves if they are better off now after Biden’s inflation and lack of economic growth, nearly everyone will say no.
I pity those who take Brandon at face value and really believe that he will ‘save our democracy from Donald Trump.’ How many MORE freedoms will we lose if this demented, madcap scarecrow on a power trip and his handlers behind the arras win the White House again? Next time we may lose every freedom.
