Ford Comes Clean On Electric Vehicle Nightmare

-

This might be why UAW is so fired up.

The so-called “electric revolution” so many are trying to convince us will transform the auto industry for the better keeps looking worse the closer it gets. With government-mandated deadlines of 2030, 2035, etc. it's becoming apparent the switch to electric cars will be anything but a utopia for most. And if you believe what Ford CEO Jim Farley said recently, the EV movement will trigger a wave of layoffs, leaving many families in the financial lurch.

According to Fortune, Farley made his comments during the Future of Everything conference hosted by the Wall Street Journal. He made it apparent that his plan isn't to retrain current workers to produce EVs but instead will just lay them off and hire people who are already qualified.

“This is the hard part: I'm not sure we can upskill everyone; I don't think they're going to make it,” Farley said. “There's a new skill set we're going to need, and I don't think I can teach everyone—it will take too much time. So there is going to be disruption in this transition.”

Basically, this is a sanitized way of saying mass layoffs are coming for Ford employees. Most likely to be shoved out the door are assembly workers, many of whom are members of UAW. No wonder the union seems to be so combative toward automakers these days.

Essentially, this is another wave to crash against the middle class in America's Rust Belt. They already took one on the kisser as trade with surged, and slave labor became cheaper than the American variety. Some towns and cities never fully recovered as unemployment surged along with drug use, and many other horrific elements. One has to question if Farley cares about the social fallout of his company's dogged push toward electrification.

Sure, Fortune points out how Ford has revived Michigan Central Station, which was an empty husk since 1988, to use as a hub for mobility software. So you see, EVs are creating jobs and revitalizing some areas while hollowing out others, and that apparently balances everything?

In the meantime, Ford keeps courting Chinese automaker BYD to deepen their relationship, signaling where the Blue Oval really feels its future lies. Once again, we see leaders are willing to sell out American families to make a buck, no matter the social cost at home.

  2. Have the unions decided that the Democrats are not their friends? Until they reach this realization nothing will happen. There jobs will continue to go elsewhere. Each auto worker ought to switch their registration to Republican and then vote Republican. Only then will the Democrats stop killing their jobs. Going woke is going broke.

  3. This article points the finger at Ford, and by implication, all auto manufacturers for the loss of jobs due to transfiguring to EVs. It specifically states, “Once again, we see leaders are willing to sell out American families to make a buck, no matter the social cost at home.” It is the natural pursuit of manufactures and retailers to provide a product in the most efficient and profitable way possible. As much as I loathe foreign manufacturing of products that could be made in the U. S., I find it difficult to find fault with Ford. If the unions hadn’t been so greedy over the past 60 to 90 years, perhaps we would be seeing a different outcome. Envision yourself as the purchaser of anything. If you can get brand A for X dollars, or brand B for 75% of X , which way will you go? The unions are the culprit in driving manufacturing of many items overseas, not the companies.

    • It isn’t just Ford and the other auto manufacturers. Don’t forget Joe Biden and the eco-nuts had a large part in this. If Sleepy Joe didn’t bow down to the green fools and actually think for himself this wouldn’t be happening. The green fools still haven’t figured out that their precious EVs need charging and power is primarily made from fossil fuels and will be for at least the rest of my life. Wind/solar power just won’t be enough to power our vehicles in the U. S., much less the rest of the world. The only people with vehicles will be the elites which is exactly what the elites want.

      • Biden ,”Think for himself?”? Biden can’t think at all. Watch his OLD Senate talks. What and who did he speak for??? Bernie Sanders is another marionette . THEY do what their “massage “say to do. AOC?? She couldn’t think past a bagel. Her economics course was by affirmative action. Bur she got her “constituents” a “LIVING WAGE”! Yes she did, and immediately , prices doubled OVER NIGHT because of “HER” and the doubling of the minimal wage. Yet, she was paying $3.50 for coffee nd a bagel , then the next morning the cost rose to $7.50 and she couldn’t UNDERSTAND WHY???

  4. I wouldnt be a bit surprised if they took this down. They have had intelligence for years about electric cars. Just like Tesla wanting to help the human race. He wasnt allowed to do this. You dont need a plug-in or a charge. They have generators that can be put on board EVs that will stay ahead of the electric motor-driven anything. You wont see it because there is no money in it.

  5. Maybe the UAW should direct their ire toward the self-claimed “most pro-union President ever” who is dictating the push to EVs.

  6. One line in that story says it all for me. “No wonder the union seems to be so combative toward automakers these days.” If the UAW is going to be angry, target the Administration that is pushing this move to electric vehicles. Not the car companies that will be forced to sacrifice current employees who cannot be retrained for the highly specific skills needed. The facts tell the story. The material used to make the batteries ate far mor toxic then any oil based fuel. The exposure of the material in the open mines is hazardous to people in the vicinity, as it is a source of air pollution. Another reason to “thank” Joe Biden for his incompetence.

  7. Car companies, even when moving to EV vehicles, need trained assembly line workers. Dumping those present assembly workers will be a disaster for Ford and other EV car companies. Musk’s Tesla and similar EV companies had a lot of assembly problems and poor fit and finish issues in their early days. Retain the assembly workers who have good work records, don’t dump them.
