Multiple Dems, Including US Congresswoman, Carjacked. Will Party Finally Disavow Defund Police Wing?

-

Two powerful Democrats have suffered the indignity of being threatened with guns in their faces before being carjacked.

Fortunately, both escaped unharmed. Maybe now they'll take America's spike in violent seriously.

At least we can hope.

First, we go to South , where two armed men carjacked Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.) in broad daylight on Wednesday.

WATCH:

Philadelphia's Action News has the latest following Scanlon's attack:

Delaware State Police and the FBI discovered the vehicle in the area of the Christiana Mall, sources say.

Five occupants were also reportedly located in the stolen vehicle.

The shocking incident undermines Philadelphia's Soros-backed DA Larry Krasner, who said earlier this month that the city doesn't “have a crisis of crime.” (RELATED: Here Are 15 Crimes Biden's New US Attorney Won't Prosecute)

A teary-eyed Krasner later apologized to the press, tacitly acknowledging that 2021 has been the deadliest in Philly's 339 years. Krasner still hasn't apologized for making a career out of suing the police.

Reflecting on the crime surge, James Fotis, president of the National Center for Police Defense, explained that “When police are in fear of being criminally charged for doing their jobs, they can't do their jobs.”

Then, there's the cautionary tale of Illinois Democratic Senator Kimberly Lightford, who experienced a terrifying carjacking by three masked assailants on Tuesday night just outside .

Pulling up in Dodge Durango, the trio ambushed Lightford and her husband before fleeing with the couple's Mercedes Benz SUV. According to an eyewitness, the senator begged the gunman not to shoot her husband.

Underscoring the seriousness of the crises in Philadelphia and Chicago, Fotis describe how police departments are having to cut back on the number of calls they respond to. “They are only responding to major crimes. We had a recent case in Florida where a 29-year old officer was shot and killed in a routine traffic stop. These officers don't know what is going to happen to them when they go out on a call. Police are not Superman,” he added.

Multiple gunshots were fired during the encounter between Lightford and her attackers. Police haven't said who pulled the trigger. The senator and her husband were unharmed.

ABC Chicago shared Lightfoot's public response to the traumatic experience:

Lightford released a statement, saying, “First and foremost I am thankful that my husband and I are alive and physically unharmed. I am trying to process the trauma of what happened. I want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support. I want to especially thank Mayor Katrina Thompson and the Broadview Police Department for their quick and thorough response.”

Police said they are investigating potential surveillance video to help identify the subjects.

By the beginning of December, Cook County, which includes the City of Chicago, had already had its most violent year in three decades(RELATED: Violent Crime Spike Linked to Defund Police Movement)

In 2019, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office recorded 624 homicides. As of December 1, the county registered 1,009 homicides, rivaling 1991 as its deadliest year.

Yet despite the spike in homicides and shootings, Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx (another Soros disciple) has shown more interest in covering up her handling of the Jussie Smollett debacle than prosecuting gang members who murder each other.

In some places, conditions have deteriorated so much that the very wealthy have begun hiring personal security. Writing for City Journal, Thomas Hogan describes how Chicago's upscale Bucktown neighborhood has pooled its resources to hire an armed private security force. While Mayor Lori Lightfoot claimed she “totally understood” the reaction to her and Kim Foxx's ineptitude, she still railed against the neighborhood for taking the initiative to defend itself.

Will this week's developments finally result in Democrats calling out their anti-police wing? So far, so-called moderates have done little to rein in their colleagues' extreme rhetoric:

  1. No, she will no doubt call for more gun control. After all if the crook didn’t have gun he couldn’t have done what he did.
