NATIONAL SECURITY

Trump says military force not off the table for Greenland after the Danish foreign minister scolded the administration, saying Denmark is already investing more into Arctic security and is open to more cooperation with the U.S.

‘The US won’t get that.’ Greenland’s newly elected Prime Minister said he will not hand over the Arctic territory.

HOMELAND SECURITY

Team Trump asked the Supreme Court to allow the government to continue to deport immigrants using the Alien Enemies Act, previously only used in wartime.

How Trump is leaning on the Military to fulfill his plans for mass deportations and an immigration freeze.

As its A-10s retire, the Maryland Air Guard may be the only one among the 50 states without a flying mission.

POLITICS

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s younger brother is serving in a key position inside the Pentagon as a Department of Homeland Security liaison and senior adviser.

Senior DOD leaders have less than two weeks to submit proposals to shrink and reorganize their commands, agencies, and departments, and DOD is also offering early retirement to eligible civilian workers, Hegseth said in a memo.

Trump signed an executive order to outlaw collective bargaining across two-thirds of the federal government, citing provision of federal labor law that invokes national security.

The Senate Armed Services Committee will hold its confirmation hearing this week for Trump’s pick for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the top US uniformed military post.

PENTAGON WOKE WATCH

US Naval Academy will no longer consider race, ethnicity or sex as a factor for admission, a response to an executive order by President Trump.

US POWER OVERSEAS

Army reconsidering prepositioned military stock, doubling down on Indo-Pacific, says general. It could disband a floating, mobile cache of weapons and equipment and instead distribute them in friendly territory.

Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan briefly ordered all its residents to shelter-in-place due to an alarm for unspecified space debris.

CHINA THREAT

China launches classified TJS-16 spacecraft aboard a Long March 7A rocket, companion object emerges alongside earlier TJS-15 satellite, continuing a series of secret experimental missions.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Euronukes: A vision for an Anglo-French nuclear force. Poland’s Prime Minister has noted that “a profound change of [sic] American geopolitics” has already provoked reappraisals across Europe of the future of nuclear deterrence on the continent.

IRAN THREAT/ISRAEL WARS

OK THEN, TEHRAN. IT’S BOMBS AWAY – Iran has rejected direct negotiations with the US in response to Trump’s letter to the country’s supreme leader over its rapidly advancing nuclear program.

The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group (CSG) departed Guam and is now headed to join the Harry. S Truman CSG in the Middle East for strikes against Houthis, and maybe also Iran. Meanwhile, Navy jets intercept Russian spy plane near the Carl Vinson.

A-10 Warthogs are deploying as the US builds up forces in the region amid ongoing fighting with Houthis.

US airstrikes pound Yemen’s Houthi-held capital overnight.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

Israeli military leaders are concerned about Turkey potentially building up a presence at air bases in Syria.

Italy is considering buying the Japanese Kawasaki P-1 maritime patrol aircraft to tackle hostile submarines in the Med, a break from buying US aircraft.

US MILITARY

SECDEF’s decision to review military standards for combat, physical fitness and appearance opens the door to differing rules among the services. Should there be a ‘one-size fits all’ approach, or should service differences [MAYBE], evolving social norms [NO] and recruiting realities [NO] play a role?

The Navy is hoping to nearly double its fleet of warships, including submarines, aircraft carriers and destroyers, within the next three decades — a jump from 296 ships to 381. But U.S. shipbuilding is in a “perpetual state of triage.”

When the Navy’s newest supercarrier USS Gerald R. Ford deploys later this year, its strike group will include Arleigh Burke class destroyers armed with ‘Coyote’ and ‘Roadrunner-M’ counter-drone interceptors.

Some of the secrecy over the origins of Boeing’s F-47 sixth-generation stealth fighter, and the tradeoffs made along the way, have now been pulled back.

The US military doesn’t just need squadrons of coders writing software programs—it needs an entire workforce of “software literate” workers.
