America must understand the threat of growing Chinese military power…
PAUL’S DEFENSE BRIEF (PDB) – Can U.S. Intel keep up with China’s tsunami of weapons developments? China has massively ramped up its weapons development, introducing waves of new missiles, ground combat systems, and vessels, as well as vastly expanding its nuclear triad.
In just the past few months, China showed off gobs of new hardware, especially during its Victory Day parade in September. But Beijing’s developments in the air combat arena have been most stunning with myriad new combat drones and stealth fighters.
Not since the height of the Cold War have so many military advancements and individual adversary weapons programs flooded the space. Does the U.S. intelligence community have the raw capacity to adequately deal with this?
Make Pentagon’s China Military Power report really matter. The soon-to-be released annual publication plays a vital role in the public’s awareness of the world’s largest military build-up since World War II, which Beijing often shrouds in opacity.
It has become regarded by Congress, the U.S. interagency, foreign governments, and outside experts as the most authoritative public evaluation of China’s military. It should be more forward-looking.
Meanwhile, China has commissioned its third and latest aircraft carrier after extensive sea trials, the first one fully made in China, helping what is already the world’s largest navy expand its power farther beyond its own waters.
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – Here’s a roundup of today’s other top defense news from conservative national security expert PAUL CRESPO.

NATIONAL SECURITY
Lawmakers in both congressional chambers are calling for the creation of a new whole-of-government plan to confront the expanding cooperation between China, Russia, Iran and North Korea to ensure the U.S. is prepared to counter concurrent challenges from multiple adversaries.
Pentagon has released highly anticipated plan to attract and retain cyber talent by better integrating Cyber Command with other military departments for recruitment and training and establishing three new organizations to improve the military’s hacking and defensive prowess.
HOMELAND SECURITY
A judge in West Virginia is set to hear arguments in a lawsuit challenging the deployment of the state National Guard to patrol the streets of Washington, D.C.
Federal judge in Oregon ruled that Trump’s administration failed to meet the legal requirements for deploying the National Guard to Portland after the city and state sued to block the deployment.
Final three Air Force F-15C Eagles at Barnes Air National Guard Base, Mass., fly for the last time, ending the aircraft’s era on the frontlines of homeland defense.
U.S. and Israel have accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Israel’s ambassador to Mexico, bring that conflict to North America.
See the White House as It Stood and What Trump Envisions with massive New Ballroom.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth laid out a wide-ranging suite of changes to the military’s troubled and sluggish acquisition process, slashing red tape and empowering program heads, intended to speed up the pace at which the Pentagon buys new weapons and other systems.
Hegseth also unveiled broad plans to shake up Pentagon’s approach to Foreign Military Sales, a cornerstone in Trump’s disruptive effort to reform the military’s processes for supplying technology and weapons systems to international buyers.
Democratic senators are seeking to pass legislation that would bar President Trump from unilaterally resuming nuclear warhead tests.
US POWER OVERSEAS
Since early September, the military has conducted strikes against alleged drug-carrying vessels in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean in support of continued counternarcotics efforts. Here is the list.
Trump’s goal for the ongoing enhanced narcotics mission in the Caribbean also aimed at Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro, remains unclear. Strikes on the South American nation appear to be off the table for now, but other options reportedly remain. U.S. eyeing sites for added assets.
U.S. Army Pacific soldiers push forward with transformation, with an eye on China. The greatest risk the Army has in the Indo-Pacific is inaction— “being late” when conflict emerges, out of position, not fast enough, “or even worse, doing nothing at all,” says Army Pacific commander.
Army stood up a Pacific-based detachment tasked with countering disinformation and “malign influence” aimed at U.S. and its allies by adversaries.
RUSSIA THREAT
Ukraine said that more than 1,400 people from 36 African nations are fighting for Russia against Ukraine, urging those governments to warn their citizens against joining a conflict where they are “quickly killed.”
Upgraded Russian spy ship was escorted out of the North Sea earlier this week after operating near vital maritime infrastructure in the Netherlands’ exclusive economic zone.
British transport aircraft continue to regularly fly between RAF base in Oxfordshire and an airport in southeastern Poland, sustaining the air bridge that enables the delivery of weapons and equipment to Ukraine.
German Luftwaffe has sent specialists to Belgium to help combat drones following sightings near crucial military facilities, including those housing nuclear weapons.
See how Ukrainian forces use helicopters to fight drones.
MIDDLE EAST THREATS
Israeli soldiers have described a free-for-all in Gaza and a breakdown in norms and legal constraints, with civilians killed at the whim of individual Israeli officers.
White House says surge of nearly 15,000 trucks carrying commercial goods and humanitarian aid have entered Gaza since October 10, but Palestinians and aid groups have sharply disputed the figures.
Syria has carried out nationwide preemptive operations targeting Islamic State cells, as the country’s president arrived in the U.S. for talks with Trump.
NORTH KOREA THREAT
USS George Washington aircraft carrier departs Busan, South Korea after 4-day visit denounced by North Korea as a “brazen” provocation. This was its first visit to the Korean Peninsula in more than a decade.

SPACE THREATS
China conducted a pair of solid rocket launches, seeing the country surpass its previous record for orbital launch attempts in a calendar year.
INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
Eurofighter Typhoon consortium CEO has said Turkey’s $10.7 billion order of the fourth-generation combat jet could be the impetus for more customers to buy the aircraft.
Our best look at German Air force’s new PEGASUS signals intelligence (SIGINT) surveillance jet reveals key details of the unique airframe adaptations made to the Bombardier Global 6000 bizjet platform.
As part of broad modernization drive, UK’s Royal Navy upgrades to boost warship lethality and enhanced firepower.
Philippines Marine Corps unveiled its first Indian-made BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missile battery and future plans to enhance coastal defense, a milestone in Manila’s effort to develop a long-range precision fires capability.
US MILITARY
Army plans to increase partnerships with private industry and boost its own manufacturing capacity to field at least one million drones within the next two to three years.
As drones proliferate, Army pilots worry about their future. Will a new approach to flight school help?
Space is key to the Army’s long march to a connected force where every soldier, vehicle and sensor shares data seamlessly. A “data-centric” force that can see, decide and act faster than any adversary. But for decades results have been disappointing and expensive.
Air Force’s new fighter plan calls for a 30% increase in fighters, but achieving that increase will be challenging, and the plan lacks a convincing force-sizing rationale and budget.
Coast Guard exceeds fiscal year 2025 recruiting goals, achieves highest numbers since 1991.
