Video: House Leader Alleges Biden Envoy To Iran May Have Committed ‘Treason’

-

A key congressional committee chairman alleges a top official may have committed “” in official dealings with .

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman made the claim while appearing on CBS' “Face The Nation” to discuss Biden's “Special Envoy for Iran,” Rob Malley.

Malley has been placed on unpaid leave and his security clearance was suspended in June amid an investigation into whether he mishandled classified information.

It is unclear why Malley's clearance was suspended after he was named Special Envoy, but it is reported Malley was part of an effort by outgoing Obama administration officials to aid Iran in thwarting tougher policies from then-incoming President .

The Washington Times reported “in 2021 that Mr. Malley, along with former Secretary of State John Kerry continued to meet with Iranian officials after former President Obama had left office. Some of the meetings were with then-Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in an apparent bid to undermine the Trump administration's ‘maximum pressure' policy on Iran.”

McCaul has demanded the White House explain why Malley's clearance was suspended, but has received no answer.

McCaul pointed out that while there is no evidence right now Malley transferred classified materials to Iran, some are bracing for the “worst case scenario.”

“I can't tell you how important this is because if he somehow, you know – worst case scenario – transferred intelligence and secrets to our foreign nation adversary… that would be treason in my view,” said McCaul.
