Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged Wednesday that he threatened to “kick ass” during a heated confrontation last year, while firmly denying reports that he threatened to punch the now-acting Director of National Intelligence “in the face.”

The unusual exchange emerged during a Senate Finance Committee hearing, where Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) pressed Bessent about reports surrounding a confrontation between the two Trump administration officials during the summer of 2025.

According to Bessent, one key detail in the widely circulated account was inaccurate.

NATIONAL SECURITY

HOMELAND DEFENSE

NORAD boss wants to get creative on defeating cruise missiles. The U.S. commander responsible for North America said he’s open to new ways to counter cruise missile attacks on the homeland, including electronic warfare and other non-kinetic means. 

This is what it’ll take to end the military’s border mission. Federalized National Guard troops have been deploying to the U.S.-Mexico border for nearly four years, with no end in sight.

HOMELAND SECURITY

CHINA THREAT

While focusing on Ukraine, we cannot ignore China’s Pacific ambitions. While Washington and Europe are focused on Ukraine, China is advancing its strategic position in the Indo-Pacific, signing an agreement with the Solomon Islands and militarizing several islands in the South China Sea.

RUSSIA THREAT

Moscow cites risk of nuclear war as U.S., allies pledge more arms for Ukraine. Russia accused NATO of engaging in a proxy battle that created a serious risk of nuclear war as Washington convened its allies on Tuesday at a German airbase to pledge the heavy weapons Ukraine needs to achieve victory.

Blasts hit Russia-backed breakaway region, Moldova convenes security meeting. Moldova’s president convened an urgent security meeting on Tuesday after two blasts damaged Soviet-era radio masts in the breakaway region of Transdniestria, where authorities said a military unit was also targeted.

Finland, Sweden to begin NATO application in May, say local media reports. Finland and Sweden will together express their wish to join NATO in May, tabloid newspapers Iltalehti in Finland and Expressen in Sweden reported on Monday, citing sources close to the matter.

Russia hits rail, fuel facilities in attacks deep in Ukraine. Russia unleashed a string of attacks against Ukrainian rail and fuel facilities Monday, striking crucial infrastructure far from the front line of its eastern offensive, which Britain said has yet to achieve a significant breakthrough.

Looming ground battle is crucial phase in Ukraine, US officials say. New U.S. shipments of heavy artillery and counter-artillery radar, tactical drones, armored vehicles and other equipment are being rushed to Ukraine.

US looks to shift Ukraine from Soviet to NATO weapons. “It would just be easier if we were using similar systems,” said one expert, as U.S. officials mull long–term efforts to resupply Ukraine’s arsenal.

NORTH KOREA

North Korea pledges to strengthen nuclear forces at military parade. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un promised to strengthen the country’s nuclear weapons in a speech at a military parade where intercontinental ballistic missiles and other weapons were displayed, a state media outlet said on Tuesday.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

African forces used US Seabase Woody Williams to combat local threats. The deployment of USS Hershel “Woody” Williams’ (ESB-4) deployment off the West Coast of Africa allowed forces from Sierra Leone, Cape Verde and Senegal to the U.S. ship as a base of operations for local missions. 

Al-Qaida-linked group in Mali says it has captured Russian mercenaries. Islamic extremist rebels in Mali linked to al-Qaida said they have captured mercenary fighters from Russia’s Wagner Group in fighting earlier this month.

US MILITARY AND SPACE

Famed Hawaii Marine attack squadron cases its colors. L“Scarface” was deactivated as part of the Marine Corps’ latest plan to restructure its Hawaii-based forces.

    The CCP, Wall Street, The US ☭hamber Of ☭ommerce and ☭orporate Ameri☭a bribed ☭ongress to write the laws that made it legal to screw over America and allow the greatest transfer of jobs, wealth and intellectual property in modern history to an avowed enemy, Communist China, making them the threat they are today.
