One suspect — described by multiple outlets as a 28-year-old male soldier — is in custody.
All five victims, who are also soldiers, are being treated at local hospitals. Two have been transferred to a nearby Level 1 trauma center for advanced care.

Five soldiers were shot today during an active shooter incident at the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team complex. All were treated on-site before being transported to Winn Army Community Hospital for further care. At this time, there is no active threat to the surrounding community.
The incident remains under investigation. No additional information will be released by the U.S. Army until the investigation is complete.

Savannah, GA, Aug. 6, 2025 — Fort Stewart, the largest U.S. Army post east of the Mississippi River, went into lockdown this morning after reports of an active shooter in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area. The incident prompted immediate security protocols across base grounds and nearby schools.
At approximately 11:04 a.m., Fort Stewart initiated a lockdown that affected the Wright and Evans Army Airfields and on-base schools, instructing personnel to shelter in place and secure all access points.

A post on Fort Stewart’s Facebook page confirmed that “casualties have been reported,” though the post did not specify fatalities or the nature of injuries.
Covering approximately 279,000 to 280,000 acres (about 1,100 km²), Fort Stewart spans parts of Liberty, Bryan, Long, Evans, and Tattnall counties and stretches roughly 39–42 miles east‑to‑west and 19 miles north‑to‑south.
The base serves as home to the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), also known as the “Rock of the Marne.”
Other units stationed at Fort Stewart include 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team (1st ABCT) “Raider,” 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team (2nd ABCT) “Spartans,” 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion (Enhanced), 92nd Engineer Battalion (Heavy), and the 188th Infantry Brigade.
