Ana Kasparian, a well-known progressive journalist and host of The Young Turks, shared a disturbing personal experience that led her to distance herself from the Democratic Party. During an appearance on Jillian Michaels’ podcast, she opened up about a traumatic encounter with a homeless man in Los Angeles that deeply impacted her.
While walking her dog, Kasparian was allegedly assaulted. Understandably horrified, she shared the incident publicly, but the response from her fellow liberals left her feeling abandoned and unfairly criticized.
Instead of receiving support, Kasparian was accused of vilifying the homeless community. Some went so far as to label her a racist, despite the fact that she never mentioned the man’s race. This backlash was a turning point for her.
“It woke me up,” she said. “I realized that the very people I thought stood for compassion and understanding were quick to stereotype and shame, while accusing others of being ‘bad actors.'”

The Daily Mail has more:
The nearly two-hour podcast went on to detail the two women’s thoughts on the recent political climate with both of them claiming the left ‘forces people to defect.’
Kasparian, who was once aligned with the Democratic Party said: ‘I’m at a point where I do not want to be pigeon-holed in any political tribe or identity.
‘Everything has become dogmatic and if you don’t buy into the entirety of the dogma you open yourself up to backlash. It’s not a fun experience,’ she added.

The now politically independent journalist tore into recent efforts to ‘demonize and even dehumanize the other side’ – while admitting she used to be a person who ‘bought into’ the stigma of ‘if you disagree with someone politically than that means you can no longer be friendly to each other,’ something she attributed to the ‘Trump era,’ of politics.
Both women stated they now feel unwelcome in the Democratic Party, which they once considered their political home.
Kasparian’s experience, in particular, highlights the deep divisions within progressive circles, where ideological purity tests often leave little room for differing viewpoints or personal experiences that challenge the status quo.
