Arizona Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego is launching an effort to challenge a new Trump Administration immigration policy that could require many green card applicants to leave the United States and complete the process abroad.

According to a report from The Hill, Gallego is not only seeking to overturn the policy itself but is also pursuing a procedural strategy that could make it easier for Congress to reverse the change.

The dispute revolves around a recent U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policy affecting how certain immigrants obtain lawful permanent residency.

Prominent conservative voices erupted on social media to start the week after newly released documents from the Epstein files revealed previously undisclosed interactions between former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and the late convicted child sex offender and human trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein.

The disclosures have sparked fresh debate on the right about Bannon’s past associations and judgment, underscoring growing discomfort among some conservatives.

What the Newly Released Files Show

According to records made public under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Epstein and Bannon exchanged hundreds of emails and text messages, primarily after Bannon left the Trump White House in 2017.

Most strikingly, the documents show that on the same day Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges in July 2019, he and Bannon discussed plans to film on Epstein’s private Caribbean island and to collaborate on a friendly documentary to counter Netflix’s “Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich.”

As Mediate reports:

“If we arrange it can we film on the island,” asked Bannon, referencing Epstein’s infamous private island in the Caribbean. After Epstein replied in the affirmative, Bannon followed by inquiring, “Can we do late morning say 11. Am?”

“All canceled,” replied Epstein, who was being taken into custody at Teterboro airport.

In earlier correspondence, Bannon advised Epstein on crisis messaging, urging him to “push back on the lies … then crush the pedo/trafficking narrative … then rebuild your image as a philanthropist.”

The communications also show Epstein attempting to position himself as a connector and facilitator in Bannon’s broader political ambitions, even as Epstein’s criminal history was well known.

Intersection With Bannon’s Global Populist Efforts

The correspondence overlaps with a period when Bannon was traveling extensively across Europe, promoting nationalist and populist movements and building what he described as a global infrastructure for right-wing populism. The files include discussions on:

  • European nationalist leaders and parties
  • Messaging strategies aimed at uniting populist factions
  • Media and documentary projects tied to political narratives

In several exchanges, Epstein appears eager to provide logistical support, elite introductions, and strategic advice aligned with Bannon’s political aims.

Conservative Backlash Breaks Into the Open

The revelations prompted a wave of criticism from prominent conservative figures and commentators.

Among the reactions:

  • Elon Musk labeled Bannon “evil” in a viral post on X, calling the behavior revealed in the files reprehensible.
  • Roger Stone, a longtime Trump adviser, publicly agreed with Musk’s assessment.
  • Erick Erickson, a conservative radio host, questioned Bannon’s affiliations and what they suggest about his broader network.
  • Brenden Dilley, a prominent X personality, accused other conservative influencers of staying silent, calling their inaction cowardly.
  • Commentators, including AG Hamilton, Mario Nawfal, Mark R. Levin, and Dinesh D’Souza, also weighed in, highlighting concerns about elite alliances exposed by the files.

The criticism reflects a deeper unease within parts of the conservative movement about Bannon’s historical ties to Epstein and other figures, including self-exiled Chinese billionaire and convicted fraudster Miles Guo, given Bannon’s carefully cultivated image as a populist insurgent challenging corrupt global elites. What the Files Do — and Do Not — Prove

The documents show Epstein discussing interviews, documentary filmmaking, and public communications tactics with Bannon. They also indicate Epstein offered material support and access that could have benefited Bannon’s political projects.

However, the existence of correspondence alone does not establish criminal conduct by either man. Key details remain unclear due to redactions and incomplete records, and there is no public evidence that any proposed projects were fully implemented.

Some of Bannon’s supporters and GOP allies have declined to join the backlash, arguing that the newly released material does not prove wrongdoing and should be viewed in context. They continue to defend Bannon’s broader political record and dispute claims that the correspondence undermines his populist credentials.

A Familiar Pattern

The episode mirrors a broader theme running through the Epstein files: Epstein’s ability, even after his 2008 conviction, to maintain connections with influential figures across politics, business, and media.

The records show a sustained effort by Epstein to insert himself into elite networks, offering resources and access in exchange for relevance and protection from social rejection. (RELATED: Newly Released Files Raise Questions About Epstein’s Possible Children)

Bottom Line

The files strongly suggest that Epstein successfully inserted himself into Bannon’s global populist strategy by providing strategic advice, logistical support, networking opportunities, and media collaboration.

While the documents challenge previous public understandings of the depth of their relationship, they do not, on their face, establish illegal activity by Bannon or prove that any proposed projects moved forward. Still, the revelations have sparked a rare public reckoning within conservative circles about Bannon’s judgment, credibility, and the boundaries of political alliances.
