Elon Musk on Sunday said he would cover legal fees for any victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein who choose to publicly name their alleged abusers but fear being sued for doing so.
“I will pay for the defense of anyone who speaks the truth about this and is sued for doing so,” Musk wrote on X.
Musk’s comment came in response to a post from conservative commentator Matt Walsh, who shared a newly released public service announcement featuring women who say they were abused by Epstein and his associates. The video, released earlier on Super Bowl Sunday, urges Attorney General Pam Bondi to support Epstein’s victims and push for full transparency in the case.
“After years of being kept apart, we’re standing together,” several women say in the PSA. Holding photographs of themselves from the time of their alleged abuse, they add, “Because this girl deserves the truth. Because we all deserve the truth.”
Walsh said he supports the release of all Department of Justice files related to Epstein but questioned why the women in the video have not publicly identified their alleged abusers.
“These women could also just name their abusers at any time,” Walsh posted. “Instead they’ve embarked on a months-long publicity campaign which curiously didn’t start until the exact moment [Joe] Biden left office. They profess to know the names of child rapists in the most powerful positions in society yet they won’t tell us.”
After some users suggested the women feared legal retaliation, Walsh argued that members of Congress could shield them.
“They could simply give the names to any of their many (and mostly very recent) advocates in Congress, who could read the names out loud from the floor insulating themselves and these women from any litigation,” he wrote. “But they refuse to do that. Why?”
Musk replied shortly afterward with his offer to fund legal defenses.

The billionaire’s comments came amid renewed scrutiny following the release of another tranche of Epstein-related court documents in late January. Musk’s name appeared in those records, though inclusion in the files does not imply wrongdoing. Musk has denied any criminal conduct and accused the media and political opponents of misrepresenting his past, saying he expected to be “smeared relentlessly” over the disclosures. The Epstein document releases have fueled broader political fallout. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have continued pressing for additional testimony, and House Republicans have said they intend to seek interviews or depositions from several high-profile figures connected to Epstein, including former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as part of their investigation into how federal authorities handled the case. No dates for such testimony have been finalized.

Musk’s remarks also coincided with developments in Congress involving Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate. A scheduled deposition of Maxwell before the House Oversight Committee ended less than an hour after it began on Monday, after she invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Maxwell appeared virtually for the closed-door, bipartisan interview.

Maxwell is serving a 20-year federal prison sentence in Texas after being convicted in December 2021 of helping Epstein recruit, groom, and abuse underage girls.
Separately, Musk continues to face regulatory scrutiny abroad. French authorities have investigated X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, including a high-profile raid of its Paris offices tied to an inquiry into alleged data misuse and platform compliance. Musk has repeatedly criticized European regulators, framing such actions as politically motivated attacks on free speech. (RELATED: French Prosecutors Raid X Offices In Paris, Summon Elon Musk)
