Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Dubai after months on the run from U.S. authorities. He was immediately placed on a flight to Essex County, New Jersey, where he awaited extradition to Miami to face an attempted murder charge stemming from a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event.
Brown, 37, had reportedly been living in the Middle Eastern monarchy while a fugitive warrant was active. Law enforcement sources confirmed his detention on Thursday but declined to provide additional details. He is expected to be booked into the Miami-Dade jail system and charged with attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon — a felony that carries a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on May 16 outside a warehouse venue in northwest Miami-Dade County. Social media influencer Adin Ross was hosting an amateur boxing event when a ShotSpotter system detected multiple gunshots in the area, prompting a rapid police response.
According to the arrest warrant, witnesses claimed Antonio Brown punched a man during a dispute, took a firearm from a security guard, and fired multiple rounds as the man fled. The alleged victim was reportedly struck twice, including a graze wound to the neck, but left the scene before officers could take a full statement and later refused to cooperate with the investigation.
Police questioned Brown that night but released him due to the lack of physical evidence and a missing complainant. Footage posted by the X account Only in Dade shows a chaotic scuffle involving Brown near a line of parked cars, followed by the sound of gunfire.
Brown denied the allegations in a social media post shortly after the incident, claiming he was the victim of an attempted robbery. “I was the one who got jumped — multiple dudes tried to rob my chain and hurt me,” he wrote. “Police held me for a minute, heard my side, and let me go home. Never got arrested.”
He was granted release in June on $10,000 bond under house arrest, but he quickly fled the country. In a since-deleted post, Brown appeared to mock authorities: “I’m out the country—ain’t no more child support. Tell ya mama get a job.”
His attorney has argued the case is based on unreliable testimony. But Brown’s failure to comply with bond conditions led to its revocation and triggered the active warrant.
While overseas, the former Pro Bowl receiver maintained an active online presence — streaming from high-end hotels in Dubai and promoting his music and podcast projects. Brown last appeared in the NFL in January 2022, when he infamously walked off the field mid-game while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, ending a 12-season career that included 928 receptions, over 12,000 yards, and seven Pro Bowl selections.
