Attorneys for the woman who Matt Gaetz allegedly slept with when she was 17 have filed a subpoena to have the Florida Republican questioned under oath.
Gaetz received the subpoena as part of a defamation suit filed by a Gaetz confidant against the woman who accused Gaetz of having sex with her.
The congressman was at the center of a multiyear investigation by the Justice Department after former friend and political ally, Joel Greenberg, pleaded guilty to six charges, including sex trafficking the same 17-year-old. (RELATED: Did Gaetz's Ousting Of McCarthy Have A Hidden Reason?)
ABC News has more:
The congressman's deposition is slated for April 5, according to sources, and is part of a sprawling defamation and racketeering lawsuit brought by Gaetz's longtime friend, former Florida House member and lobbyist Chris Dorworth, against the woman and others.
The deposition could see Gaetz asked under oath about his alleged sexual activity with the woman when she was a minor.
“Congressman Gaetz received a witness subpoena in an ongoing lawsuit between outside parties,” a spokesperson for Gaetz said in a statement. “He is not being sued, and he is neither a plaintiff nor a defendant in this matter.”
When news of the allegations against Gaetz first broke in March 2021, Gaetz denied them in an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, where he also claimed the 17-year-old girl “doesn't exist.”
Dorworth filed a separate lawsuit against Greenberg, who is serving an 11-year prison sentence.
In February, the House Ethics Committee issued a subpoena for the testimony of Gaetz's ex-girlfriend as part of their ongoing investigation into the Florida Republican.
