German outlet Junge Freiheit reports that police in Hanover have opened an investigation after stickers appeared across the city showing Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Alice Weidel in crosshairs with the words “Aim here.” The stickers allegedly bore the logo of Linksjugend [’solid], the youth wing of Germany’s Left Party.

Alice Weidel als Zielscheibe!
Linksextreme verteilen solche Sticker.

AfD, a right-wing populist party, was officially designated as “right-wing extremist” by Germany’s domestic intelligence agency in May 2025. Despite that designation, the party is either leading or running neck-and-neck with the center-right CDU in national polling. While Berlin continues its surveillance of the party, many Germans express growing pessimism about whether state institutions are even capable of addressing major challenges such as migration, assimilation, and inequality.
AfD has built momentum by campaigning on restrictive immigration policies, tighter border control, cultural identity, and skepticism toward the European Union — messages that resonate especially strongly in regions experiencing demographic strain and economic hardship. 🇩🇪Alice Weidel exposes the state of modern Germany:

"Mass migration, exploding crime, high taxes, silenced dissent. The regime wants to ban the strongest opposition party- us, the AfD. This is grotesque. This is authoritarian. But, they will not prevail." pic.twitter.com/fuWCVVbUHB
Police confirmed to Junge Freiheit that the Federal Criminal Police Office has launched an investigation for public incitement and threats, while prosecutors review possible charges.
The AfD’s Hanover city council faction first flagged the stickers. Stephan Bothe, AfD’s interior policy spokesman in the Lower Saxony state parliament, expressed outrage, citing the recent assassination of U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Bothe accused Linksjugend of calling for Weidel’s murder and demanded immediate police raids, interrogations, and arrests.
The latest unrest follows a string of earlier incidents: the Hanover Linksjugend mocked Kirk’s killing on Instagram; the Hanau branch wrote “Rot in Hell Charlie Kirk”; and the Main-Taunus Linksjugend shared a fake obituary for Weidel.
Hanover police confirmed that an investigation into incitement and threats is ongoing.
