Prince Andrew, the brother of King Charles III, will no longer use his prince title, Buckingham Palace announced Thursday.
Andrew will now officially be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, according to the palace.
He previously lost his title, the Duke of York. According to CNN at the time, “He will continue to reside at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he has a private tenancy agreement, a royal source said. He will also retain his title as “prince” because he is the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II.”
Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew were connected through their social and philanthropic circles beginning in the 1990s. Epstein, a financier later convicted of sex offenses, and Ghislaine Maxwell, his close associate, introduced the prince to a network of elite figures in New York and London. Their friendship drew scrutiny after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting sex from a minor, and intensified when Virginia Giuffre alleged that Epstein trafficked her to Prince Andrew when she was 17—a claim the prince has denied. In 2022, Prince Andrew settled Giuffre’s civil lawsuit against him out of court without admitting liability.
