The Navy waitlist for child care has been reduced by more than 3,200 kids across the service in the last two years, but officials said they need more workers to keep making progress in providing adequate facilities and services for all families.
TAKE ALL THE TIME YOU NEED, MOMS – IT'S NOT LIKE WE ARE SHORT ON PEOPLE OR ANYTHING – Coast Guard will let new moms defer assignments for up to a year following childbirth. The Coast Guard is extending a policy instituted last year that lets service members who have a baby defer orders overseas or assignments to deployable ships.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, making an unannounced trip to Iraq on Tuesday nearly 20 years after the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein, said Washington was committed to keeping its military presence in the country.
Somalia's al Shabaab recaptures base it lost to military offensive. Fighters from Somalia's al Shabaab Islamist group on Tuesday overran a military base in the southern Jubbaland region that they had lost to the army in January, a Somali officer said.
Japan's H3 rocket fails after liftoff in blow to space ambitions. JAXA intentionally destroys the H3 rocket after the vehicle's second-stage engine failed to ignite following liftoff.

The Reaper UAV is getting its own drone swarm. Air Force special operators are rigging the venerable uncrewed aircraft with an ISR swarm that may take just one person to control.
