Biden Admits China’s ‘Spy Balloon’ Was a ‘Spy Balloon’

DEFENSE ALERT – In what must be a tremendous shock to some in the media, as well as a few ‘experts’ who dismissed or downplayed the intelligence gathering capabilities of China’s recently downed ‘spy balloon,’ turns out that the giant Chinese airship which flew uninterrupted across the entire United States, was, in fact, a ‘spy balloon.’

As I reported several times, this high-altitude, high-tech, slow-moving behemoth airship was designed and deployed primarily as an intelligence-gathering platform, mostly to vacuum up SIGINT or Signals Intelligence.

SIGINT is information such as communications, including cell phones, texts and emails, as well as radar emissions and other electronic emissions, gathered by electronic means.

The signals-collection devices carried by this balloon likely got data on what mobile phones are in use around a military base, for example, something China can’t easily do from satellites.

While the balloon, in this case, served a major political purpose to test the U.S. (aka Biden) response (or non-response) and as a show of capability to the world and could even be a test of future balloon use to detonate a small nuke EMP (electromagnetic pulse) over the U.S. to disrupt all electronics in case of war, its primary functional role was to spy.

And it’s nice for Team Biden to admit it.

CNN reports that according to a senior State Department official, the balloon “was capable of conducting signals intelligence collection operations” and was part of a fleet that had flown over “more than 40 countries across five continents.”

“We know the PRC used these balloons for surveillance,” the official said. “High resolution imagery from U-2 flybys revealed that the high-altitude balloon was capable of conducting signals intelligence collection operations.”

CNN continued: “The high-altitude balloons’ equipment was clearly for intelligence surveillance and inconsistent with the equipment onboard weather balloons. It had multiple antennas to include an array likely capable of collecting and geo-locating communications. It was equipped with solar panels large enough to produce the requisite power to operate multiple active intelligence collection sensors,” the official added.

Despite the admission of the spy balloon’s sophisticated SIGINT collection capabilities, the Pentagon has insisted since the vessel was first acknowledged that it does not give China capabilities beyond those from spy satellites or other means.

This only begs the question – why produce and deploy such a monster airship at all then?

Well, The New York Times gives some of it away when it writes:

American officials do not know exactly what kinds of communications the satellite was trying to collect and have not determined what sites the balloon was targeting, U.S. officials say.

Officials say they took steps at nuclear launch sites and other military bases to try to ensure there was no useful information that the balloon could collect. The U.S. government also took steps to protect official communications in the balloon’s path. While officials say they are confident the balloon did not get any sensitive data on U.S. nuclear sites, they are unsure what it did collect. [emphasis added.]

So basically, the Biden Pentagon line is – the spy balloon didn’t pose a threat and didn’t collect anything useful, but they then admit they have no idea what it was trying to collect or did collect.

Par for the course with Team Biden.
