TUESDAY  – Language and messaging are problems at the Pentagon. While most of us focus on DOD's idiotic neo-Marxist obsession with woke pronouns and terms, the problem goes deeper. Sometimes senior officers simply don't understand what message they are actually conveying.

GOAL IS NOT TO ‘AVOID' – IT IS TO DETER OR WIN – Army secretary says goal with China, Taiwan is to ‘avoid land war in Asia.' Two of the Army's top leaders said Monday that 2023 is an important year for the U.S. to show China that any attempt to “unify” with Taiwan would meet with a strong U.S.-led coalition of resistance like what is seeing in Ukraine. AND USING SILLY, LOADED TERM ‘LAND WAR IN ASIA' ONLY TELLS CHINA WE ARE AFRAID OF THAT.

JUSTICE – Military services will amend COVID vaccine refuser records so they aren't passed over for promotions. All of the military services are currently reworking their policies to adjust separation and promotion records for service members who refused to get the COVID-19 vaccine, after the Pentagon ended the inoculation mandate last month.

NATIONAL SECURITY

US calls on Russia to stay with nuclear weapons treaty. Russian leader announced last week that the country would suspend participation in the New START treaty.

WE'VE HEARD THAT BEFORE – Biden ruling out giving Ukraine F-16s ‘for now.' said he is ruling out Ukraine's request for F-16 fighter jets at this time, despite increased pressure from Ukraine. SO, EXPECT F-16s NEXT.

White House gives federal agencies 30 days to remove TikTok from all government devices. The ban Biden signed into law last year provides limited exceptions for , national security and security research purposes.

Canada bans TikTok on government devices. The TikTok video app ban starts on Tuesday.

HOMELAND SECURITY

PURE POLITICAL THEATER FOR A SELF-CREATED CRISIS – Biden's new border crackdown flouts US treaty obligations. Anticipating another potential surge of migrants at the southern border, Team Biden has announced a crackdown on those seeking asylum after unlawfully entering the U.S.

Major cyberattack compromised sensitive US Marshals Service data. The compromised information includes law enforcement materials, the personal information of employees, and potential targets of federal investigations.

CHINA THREAT

After warnings, no evidence China is supplying arms to Russia, US officials say. “China has not moved forward” with supplying lethal weapons to Russia for its war in Ukraine, though U.S. intelligence suggests the superpower is weighing such a move.

Why China may hold off on attacking Taiwan. The Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Colin Kahl, says China's desire to annex Taiwan is influenced by Russia's underwhelming performance in Ukraine.

Taiwan needs more Top Guns as chance of conflict with China grows. Five years ago, Taiwanese fighter pilot Lt. Col. Hsiao Yi-chiao was ordered to scramble to intercept an incoming Chinese military aircraft. He took off within six minutes, his F-16 jet screaming into the sky above southern Taiwan.

RUSSIA THREAT – UKRAINE WAR

Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 370. Kremlin spokesman says Russia will not resume participation in New START nuclear treaty talks until Washington listens to Moscow's position. US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has paid a surprise visit to Kyiv to reaffirm Washington's support and economic aid to help Ukraine's war campaign.

Belarus president and firm Russia ally Lukashenko to visit China. Alexander Lukashenko's visit to Beijing comes as China's relations with the US have plummeted.

An awkward tension lies beneath the West's support for Ukraine. In public, U.S. and European leaders vow unwavering support for Ukraine's total victory. In private, a more cynical realism is starting to emerge.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY

US commandos advise Somalis in fight against al Qaeda branch. A campaign in the Horn of Africa is now the most active element in the ‘forever wars' the U.S. has waged since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

America and Makin Island ARGs will join Cobra Gold 2023. The Navy's two Amphibious Ready Groups (ARG) deployed in the Indo-Pacific – the Makin Island ARG and the America ARG – will participate in major exercises in Thailand and Japan on Monday with the multinational Cobra Gold 2023 exercise in Thailand and the bilateral Iron Fist 23 exercise in Japan.

US and allies hold naval drills as Russian activity increases in Mediterranean. The large-scale naval drills Monday are being held in an area where Russian warships have been transiting in increasingly high numbers.

Brazil allows two Iranian warships to dock in Rio despite US pressure. The warships docked on Sunday after Brazil's Socialist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's government granted permission despite U.S. pressure to bar them.

BIDEN AFGHAN FIASCO

THE FINAL RECKLESS RETREAT IS STILL ALL ON BIDEN – US lacked ‘political will,' resources to build up Afghan forces, report finds. Biden, Trump administrations didn't account for low morale, which was “one of the main contributors” to the collapse of the Afghan security forces amid the U.S. military withdrawal in 2021.

US MILITARY

NEWS WORTH PURSUING – Six leaders fired from Air Force nuclear base in North Dakota. The Air Force declined to say what led to their ousters at Minot Air Force Base, or what disciplinary action they may face.

REPLACED BY? – The Marine Corps is getting rid of Scout Snipers. The Marine Corps has had Scout Snipers since World War II.

BAD FLAG ETIQUETTE – Pentagon tells service members to stop displaying giant US flags at major events. The Defense Department has a message for the service members being cheered on as they unfurl giant American flags horizontally at the Super Bowl and other major events: You're not following the rules.

  1. You don’t fight China on the ground in Asia, especially with a total force of 3,000,000 or fewer active and reserve duty personnel unless you’re nuts. Bomb the hell out of them. Their ARMY is about the size of our TOTAL military. They could retreat for a year before running out of places to retreat to.
