Mexico is escalating its response to the fatal shooting of one of its citizens by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, announcing plans to pursue legal action against the United States.
The victim, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was killed Tuesday during an ICE enforcement operation in Houston.
According to ICE, agents were attempting to arrest Salgado when he allegedly tried to flee and used his vehicle to ram an officer. An agent then opened fire in what the agency says was an act of self-defense. The FBI is now investigating the shooting.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sharply criticized the incident, saying Salgado’s only offense was living and working in the United States without legal status. She pledged to seek legal accountability rather than limit Mexico’s response to diplomatic protests.

According to reports, Mexico plans to ask U.S. prosecutors and the Department of Justice to pursue criminal charges, file civil lawsuits against companies that operate ICE detention facilities, and argue that the deaths of several Mexican nationals during ICE operations amount to human rights violations. Mexican officials also acknowledged they cannot force U.S. authorities to bring criminal charges.
Salgado’s family has challenged ICE’s version of events, saying he had lived in the United States for roughly 35 years, had no criminal history, and may have mistaken agents in unmarked vehicles for criminals. They are demanding an independent investigation and the release of additional evidence, including video footage.
The shooting has fueled protests in Houston, where demonstrators are calling for greater transparency and accountability. Members of Congress and civil rights groups have also urged an independent investigation into the incident.

So I guess that means that we get to file charges against her and what passes for a government for every single American that has gotten murdered in her country?
Poor Baby!
He tries to kill an agent with his car … he gets shot by an agent so as to stop him from doing so.
He has my sympathy … NOT!
And the Mexican president wants the agent punished WITHOUT her even knowing all of the particulars of the situation.
We should trust this president about anything else?
I no longer do!
