Multiple Casualties Reported in Possible New York City ‘Terrorism Incident’

-

Eight pedestrians were struck and injured by an errant U-Haul in Brooklyn on Monday morning.

Paramedics transported all of the victims to NYU Langone medical center. Two remain in critical condition.

Authorities arrested the driver, 62-year-old Weng Sor, without incident. The Police Bomb Squad arrived on the scene to assess if there were any additional threats.

Per Fox News:

The suspect “was just apprehended in Sunset Park,” Councilman Justin Brannan tweeted. “Several people were hit and badly injured. We have no idea of motives at this time, but this wasn't an accident.”

Some tweets suggested was investigating whether an explosive device is inside the vehicle.

Police stopped the truck near the entrance to a tunnel leading from Brooklyn to Manhattan.

The incident coincided with the start of the death penalty phase in the trial of Sayfullo Saipov, an Islamic extremist who killed eight people in 2017 by mowing them down with a truck.

Surveillance footage released showed the moment a pedestrian narrowly avoided being hit by the truck with police chasing close behind.

  1. I was born, raised, lived and worked NYC for a number of years. I departed NYC in 1967, living there having become an unacceptable abrogation of my constitutional rights. What, I wonder is it that caused or led to the disregard for the constitutional rights of law abiding residents that have become the hallmark of NYC, NY State too I wonder. Seems to me that the criminal acts mentioned earlier are part and parcel of the failures of government that plague NYC.
