Police Side With School Over Nashville Shooter Manifesto

-

is siding with the administration at a Christian elementary school to block the release of the shooter's manifesto.

A former student shot their way into the school on March 27, killing three nine-year-olds and three adults.

outlets have filed lawsuits demanding the release of the manifesto the gunman left behind. School officials and the Metro Police Department (MNPD) have filed motions to stop its release, citing the ongoing investigation.

A court hearing for the judge to hear arguments on whether to make the document public will occur Thursday, May 18.

In their filings, MNPD stated they believed the shooter acted alone but “do not know for sure.”

“Even though the assailant died at the school, the criminal investigative file does not automatically, instantly close,” lead investigator Lt. Brent Gibson wrote in a court filing. “Investigators must still work to gather and analyze evidence in the case and determine if related crimes were committed, are being planned, or whether other people were involved.”

Covenant School's motion warned that the manifesto might contain sensitive information about the school, such as building schematics and employee records.

The judge in today's hearing received the full, unredacted manifesto to review last Friday.

Gibson went on to say the Covenant investigation is expected to take approximately “12 months,” based upon the “volume of evidence and the number of persons to be interviewed,” along with officers working on a total of 46 homicide investigations in the city so far this year.

“For comparison purposes, an investigation for a murder-suicide case, where it appears ‘obvious' what has happened, typically takes eight months,” Gibson added. “While we believe at this time that the assailant acted alone in this case, we do not know for sure. And we need to investigate the matter thoroughly, as we do in all homicides, to rule out any co-conspirators or additional crimes related to this matter.”

He said he believed the release of the investigative files prematurely could cause “harmful and irreversible consequences.”

On Wednesday, the officers, alongside several parents of Covenant students, filed their motions with the court, with parents urging the documents to not be released at all.

  1. Such poppy cock, they claim a year now because they don’t want to every release the manifesto! Ten years from now when everyone is either dead or suffering from dementia, they will quietly destroy the manifesto! Cops always think they know what you should and shouldn’t know, like they think they are your parents and you are mere children! Screw them!

  2. It’s probably too revealing about the terrorism in the trans community, plus it may contain criticisms of Covenant that, though untrue, would be out there to be amplified by the left.

  3. It seems to me that it would be helpful in understanding why this disaster happened if the Manifesto were redacted where portions are sensitive, instead of waiting months or even a year while everyone thinks the worst of the police and government. I am skeptical.

  4. Even in the best of times information to become ‘news’ is passed through a filter. The bottom line: there are things THEY want us to know and things THEY don’t want us to know. The questions remain: (1) Who are THEY? and (2) From what facts would THEY shield us? (3) And cui bono? for the benefit of WHOM?

  5. Just More Beauracratic BS, by those who would protect a Mentally challenged group from being exposed by the “Fear of being canceled” which is causing consternation and frustration among Parents and Children
