Marine vet who was allegedly part of Neo-Nazi group that called for mass murder arrested on gun charges. A Marine veteran is in federal custody and facing several gun charges after he allegedly solicited an unnamed police officer as a strawman buyer for an assault rifle and pistol.
RUSSIAN SPIES – Coast Guard veteran held without bail in ID theft mystery. Walter Glenn Primrose and his wife have been charged with stealing identities of two dead children.
CHINA THREAT
China conducts military exercise opposite Taiwan. China said it was conducting military exercises Saturday off its coast opposite Taiwan.
SHE IS GOING TO VISIT – US House Speaker Pelosi begins Asia tour, no mention of Taiwan. U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi starts a tour of four Asian countries on Sunday, her office said, without mentioning Taiwan amid intense speculation she might visit the self-ruled island claimed by China.
RUSSIA THREAT
On Navy Day, Putin says United States is main threat to Russia. President Vladimir Putin on Sunday signed a new naval doctrine which cast the United States as Russia’s main rival and set out Russia’s global maritime ambitions for crucial areas such as the Arctic and in the Black Sea.
The 101st’s ‘Screaming Eagles’ take on new Romania mission. The 101st Airborne Division marked its official arrival in Europe during a ceremony Saturday at a strategic base in Romania, where soldiers were dispatched on a mission aimed at deterring potential aggression on NATO’s southeastern flank.
American veterans captured in Ukraine sent to prison, family says. Alex Drueke and Andy Huynh are believed to be the first Americans captured while fighting against Russian forces.
Russia-Ukraine war: List of key events, day 159. The first ship carrying Ukrainian grain departed the port city of Odesa for Lebanon, according to Turkey’s defense ministry. A statement from the United Nations said the Sierra Leone-flagged cargo ship, Razoni, was carrying more than 26,000 tons of corn.
Ukraine is hitting Russian SAMs with HIMARS; US considers future aviation contribution. While the air picture has remained static in the Russia-Ukraine war, the introduction of High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) has allowed Ukraine to strike surface-to-air missile targets behind enemy lines.
War with Russia enters new phase as Ukraine readies southern counterblow. A Ukrainian offensive to reclaim a key port city could be a turning point in the conflict, with success reinforcing support for Kyiv’s fight in parts of the West.
‘Horrific’ video apparently showing castration of Ukrainian fighter condemned. Amnesty International and the E.U. condemned footage circulating online that appears to show pro-Russian fighters castrating and executing a captive Ukrainian fighter.
INTERNATIONAL SECURITY
Kosovo-Serbia tensions flare; NATO peacekeepers track border protests. Tensions flared between Kosovo and Serbia over the weekend, raising concerns about the possibility of fresh unrest in the Balkans at a time when Western allies are focused on the war in Ukraine.
Russia pulls some Wagner forces from Africa for Ukraine: Townsend. Some troops from the Russian mercenary force known as the Wagner Group have been called to fight in Ukraine where the private fighters are taking on new frontline roles, according to American and British military officials.
US MILITARY AND SPACE
Most US F-35s temporarily grounded as ejection seat issue threatens jets worldwide. The U.S. military discovered a problem with the ejection seats used across its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter fleet in April but waited three months to ground those aircraft flown by the Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps to fully investigate the issue, multiple sources told Air Force Times Friday.
No more automatic Global War on Terrorism service medals, DoD says. Signaling the end of a 21-year era, the Department of Defense has told the military services to sharply restrict the award of the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal beginning Sept. 11, according to a memo obtained by Military Times.
Debris from Chinese rocket falls into sea after uncontrolled re-entry. The main stage of China’s rocket The Long March made an uncontrolled re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere and plunged into the Sulu Sea near the Philippines.
