Prominent San Francisco Democrat Wants Blue Angels Banned From Flying Over City

-

A member of the City Council came out against a planned air show by the 's squadron during San Francisco's Fleet Week.

District 5 Supervisor tweeted Saturday that the Blue Angles should not be allowed to fly over San Francisco.

Preston, a self-described Democratic socialist, didn't say what he had against the U.S. Navy's flight demonstration squadron.

In the end, San Francisco's legendary fog, not its politicians, forced the cancellation of Fleet Week's Sunday air show.

SFGATE reports:

Despite thousands of people massing along Crissy Field, the city's rooftops and anywhere else they could find a view of the skies, Fleet Week organizers at 3:30 p.m. announced that an afternoon postponement would have to become a cancellation for safety reasons. The Twitter account for the Blue Angels, Fleet Week's headline act, said, “We want to send a special thank you to the city of San Francisco for the hospitality and we are looking forward to clearer skies next year, at San Francisco Fleet Week 2023!”

Fog had also postponed Saturday's air festivities, though they did eventually go through.

Preston's tweet came minutes before the decision to postpone Saturday's air show.

After Sunday's cancellation, the Blue Angels' official Twitter account graciously thanked the city for its hospitality.

  1. Gotta keep those right angles, 45 degree angles, and other angles out, too. As for the Blue Angels, well . . . .

    • RedCar, I so agree with you. When the first thing a person notices is the misspelling of a word then the whole article is doomed. I hope the writer of this piece was only writing it the way the complainant wrote it.

There really is no hope for our country if people can’t even learn to spell.

  2. I wish the San Francisco City Council god luck with that By federal law and FAA regulations, exclusive federal jurisdiction of American air space starts at 500 feet of local altitude.

  3. That cesspool S.F. , what are they afraid of con trails. They have human waste a ll over the streets.and tent cities, drug addicts, needles and Pelosi. The Blue Angels too Patriotic for those left wing Humps?

    • But those big things can be scary….. OH, so much confusion…….. Oh my. The homeless druggies, pooping on the street are complaining. So much noise.

  4. He needs to look again….the bulk of their flying is done over the “Bay” for safety reasons. I don’t think S.F. city council governs the “Bay” waterways, that is the job of the U.SW. Coast Guard !
