In a recent segment that caught widespread attention, CNN anchor Zain Asher noted that the U.S. labor market continues to defy expectations despite economic uncertainty and shifting trade policies. Referencing the latest jobs report, which showed 147,000 new jobs added, Asher remarked, “There’s no denying that this is a very resilient labor market economy.”
But what stood out most in her commentary was a reference to what some economists have dubbed “Liberation Day” — when Trump first announced sweeping tariff hikes with many countries.
“I’ve spoken to so many economists since Liberation Day,” Asher said, “who have said to me time and time again… ‘Zain, wait ’til June.’ June we will start to see the impact in the hard data, of the sort of wavering tariff policy — that’s not happening.”

That “impact,” it seems, never materialized — at least not in the way critics predicted. The June data suggests that fears of a dramatic economic downturn tied to the tariff war were overblown. Instead, the labor market is holding steady, and several key sectors, including manufacturing, are seeing robust growth.
Critics of the Trump tariff strategy — including much of the talent at CNN — often insisted the policy would result in immediate, dramatic price hikes and consumer costs.
But after weeks of tit-for-tat tariffs, China eventually reduced its retaliatory measures and reopened key markets to American goods. While many decried the initial chaos of the policy rollout, advocates argue that the long-term effect will be beneficial for U.S. manufacturing and trade balance, with signs of those benefits already beginning to show.
Industries that relied on Chinese imports were hit hard initially. But the disruption, one post on X explained, forced a long-overdue rethinking of supply chains. Critical industries, including semiconductors, medical equipment, and steel, have begun reshoring operations. The trade deficit narrowed, and domestic production saw a measurable uptick.
“Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to cook the omelet,” the same tweet continued, “and this omelet feeds American workers.”
While many aspects of Trump’s agenda will still be highly debated, prompting his opponents to indulge doomsday predictions, the dire warnings about June’s economic reckoning didn’t come to pass. Instead, the U.S. economy remains resilient, and the labor market continues to grow.
And whether by luck, design, or a combination of both, the disruption may have achieved what years of polite negotiation failed to.

CNN. Like most of the MSM, they cannot deal with facts. In their echo chamber, “saying it – makes it so.” Predictions of economic disaster have to be true, ya know? They are stunned when the predictions do not come to pass. They are so accustomed to creating a cloud of words to distract from the facts.
The example I heve used for years is their reporting on Obamacare. While Obamacare was going through Congress, they ran dozens of prime time videos of Obama saying, ”We will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”
They bragged Obamacare passed with only Democrat votes, “Because Democrats care about people!”
Once Barack signed it, the lie was as obvious as the sunrise. CNN, with the MSM ,never confronted Barack about the lie and its devastating consequences.
For the CNN and the rest of the MSM, their stories gushing about Obamacare were like a headline:”TITANIC! SUCCESS! PEOPLE ARRIVE IN NEW YORK!” Just no mention that the ship sank, more than half the people died, etc, etc.
“There’s no denying that this is a very resilient labor market economy.”
Even their admission got it all wrong. While the U.S. economy is resilient that is not why we are seeing the results we are. CNN is in a bubble. The economists and others they are listening to got it wrong. They always get it wrong. There are other economists and historians that saw this outcome given these circumstances at the very beginning early this year.
No, this isn’t a case of the results defying the way economies work. This is a case of listening to people who believe things that aren’t true and defy the way economies actually work.
I wouldn’t say they said President Trump’s tariff program was a success. It is, but that is not what they said. They said the labor market was doing okay despite the horrible things the bad Orange Man is doing. Until the day comes when CNN cleans house and changes back to the network they were many years ago that just reported the news instead of spreading propaganda, that is about as good as we can expect.
I don’t know if, (by your observation of CNN, “cleans house” and “changes back to the Network they were many years ago”), is really even possible anymore, Randy Thomson. Other conservative organizations, concerned writers and President Trump have tried having CNN blocked from the W. House press Corps., called out and (justifiably), sued/fined for their Propaganda, (yellow journalism). They have even, (through magnificent financing and podcasting efforts), made them correct editing and got a lot of their anchors and (nasty/ commissar), hosts fired. Still…*sigh*..the owner claims he is allowed to publish and run a (fake)-news Network. The company needs to be declared a foreign, subversive, socialist false reporting organization, seized by government, (along with the New Y. Times/ Chicago Herald/L.A. Times..and others), indicted on Treasonous possible spying endeavors and liquefied.
