A top U.S. Secret Service official who became a central figure in a January 6th Committee hearing announced his sudden departure from the agency on Monday.
Tony Ornato, who reportedly told a witness that former President Donald Trump was “irate” announced he was leaving the Secret Service after more than 25 years for a new career in the private sector.
“I did retire today to pursue a career in the private sector. I retired from the U.S. Secret Service after more than 25 years of faithful service to my country, including serving the past five presidents. I long-planned to retire and have been planning this transition for more than a year,” Ornato said in a statement to CNN.
Ornato, who at the time of the riot was serving as Trump's deputy chief of staff, became a central figure during former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson‘s testimony where she said Ornato had told her of an incident when the president allegedly lunged at a member of his protective detail after being told he would not be taken to the Capitol on Jan. 6th.
Hutchison also testified that President Trump allegedly lunged at the steering wheel of his presidential vehicle and demanded he is taken to the Capitol. However, others have disputed Hutchinson's account. (RELATED: Is Jan. 6 Star Witness Lying?)
However, Ornato has said he is willing to dispute Hutchinson's account under oath but has yet to speak publicly about it.
So far, Ornato has reportedly spoken with the House Jan. 6th panel twice regarding President Trump's knowledge of then-Vice President Mike Pence's whereabouts during the Capitol riot and whether Trump could have done more to encourage the rioters to calm down and leave the building.

the President had every right to be irate! He was the Commander and Chief and wanted to go to the Capital. The left loves to criticize and claim the riot was Trumps fault and doing. Truth might be he could have calmed and redirected the actions of those that attended. Also why did the Secret Service no identify those rioters that were hired by the Left? they knew who they were.
