Over the last few days, multiple reports have emerged of a new Gazan Faction operating in the Khan Younis region of Southern Gaza alongside Israeli Forces working in the newly established “Morag” corridor which separates Rafah from Khan Younis.
New Gazan Faction alleged to be working alongside Israeli Forces

According to Gazan media, the new armed faction is headed by “Yaser Abu Shabab” (images 1-2) and is named the “Counter Terrorism Service”. Additionally, the faction was reportedly stood up by the IDF to help manage the spread of Humanitarian aid in the strip as well as to coordinate with the UN and the Red Cross as seen in slide 1 and slide 6.
Yaser Abu Shabab is himself an interesting character as he has survived numerous attempts on his life by H@m@s as he belongs to a rival clan and has previously served sentences in H@m@s prisons for theft. Additional Gazan media organisations claim that Yaser currently has 100-150 men under his command and that they are based out of IDF controlled regions in Rafah.

The same sources also claim that Yaser’s “counter terrorism service” also work alongside IDF forces to root out H@m@s cells in Southern Gaza.
