Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem has announced the identification of two individuals who allegedly leaked sensitive information about DHS operations, putting law enforcement lives at risk. Noem confirmed the discovery, stating, “We have identified two leakers of information here at the Department of Homeland Security, who have been telling individuals about our operations and putting law enforcement lives in jeopardy.” She emphasized the department’s commitment to holding these individuals accountable and ensuring that national security is not compromised.
Noem’s statement came amid additional concerns regarding leaks of information, particularly a recent report from The Los Angeles Times revealing an internal document about a large-scale Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid planned in the Los Angeles area. Noem suggested that the leak came from within the FBI, calling the agency “so corrupt” and vowing to work with all relevant agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible. “We will work with any and every agency to stop leaks and prosecute these crooked deep state agents to the fullest extent of the law,” she posted on X. Border Czar Tom Homan have stressed that such leaks directly interfere with enforcement efforts, allowing targets to evade capture and complicating operations aimed at removing criminal illegal migrants.
In a statement to Fox News, DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the department was preparing to refer the two individuals for felony prosecutions to the Department of Justice (DOJ). McLaughlin noted that the leakers could face up to 10 years in federal prison, underscoring the serious nature of the breach. “We will find and root out all leakers,” McLaughlin added. “They will face prison time, and we will get justice for the American people.”
Noem’s announcement followed her previous remarks on Fox News’s Hannity, where she discussed leaks about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations involving potential deportations. The DHS had been dealing with disruptions to operations due to unauthorized disclosures of information. The leaks were reportedly hampering raids, including operations in places like Aurora, Colorado.
As part of the department’s efforts to prevent further leaks, reports indicate that DHS is considering the use of polygraph tests for employees involved in sensitive operations. These measures are part of a broader initiative to safeguard national security and prevent further compromises of DHS operations.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi made a firm commitment to prosecute any government officials found leaking sensitive information related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids. During her first press conference, Bondi emphasized that leaks undermine the safety of officers. “The great men and women in law enforcement… deserve, they must be protected, and anytime anyone leaks or tips off anything regarding a pending investigation that jeopardizes lives, we will not stand for it,” she said. Bondi confirmed that the Department of Justice (DOJ) had an ongoing investigation into the matter, but did not reveal specifics. She assured that once the leakers are identified, they will face prosecution and severe consequences, including potential criminal charges and job loss.
