Disney Scraps Billion Dollar Project As Florida Fight Escalates

-

The Walt Disney Company is escalating its feud with Gov. .

On Thursday, the entertainment giant announced it is canceling its plans for a new Florida campus in Orlando that would have brought some 2,000 jobs to the state.

The New York Times reported the new Disney venture was a nearly $1 billion investment.

Fox Business has more:

Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, told employees in a letter provided to FOX Business that the company is no longer moving forward with its office development in Lake Nona, citing “new leadership and changing business conditions.”

Some Disney employees have already made the move to Florida, but D'Amaro said in his letter Thursday that the company would discuss those workers' individual situations, “including the possibility of moving you back.”

D'Amaro told employees he remains “optimistic about the direction of our Walt Disney World business,” and reiterated the company's plans to invest another $17 billion in the resort. He added, “I hope we're able to do so.”

When D'Amaro first announced the plans for the Lake Norma campus in 2021, saying the company would move a few thousand employees from its headquarters to the new location, praising “Florida's business-friendly climate.”

Last month, Disney filed a lawsuit against DeSantis alleging he has waged a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power” against the company. (RELATED: Disney Sues Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis)

The suit came as a DeSantis-picked board overseeing the governance of Disney World's operations moved to nullify Disney's control over a comprehensive development agreement at its 25,000-acre Florida resort.

  1. That’s funny, a few weeks ago Disney was laying off 7,000 employees because of sales. Now it’s saying they were going to invest 1 Billion dollars in a new campus…. ummmmmm

  2. What a load of nonsense and rubbish, they are scraping their expansion because they went woke and are now going broke! They say it is because of DeSantis because they think that sounds good!
