Report: Disney Sues Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

-

Disney is fighting back.

On Wednesday, The Walt Disney Company filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) alleging the governor has waged a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power” against the company.

The suit came as a DeSantis-picked board overseeing the governance of Disney World's operations moved to nullify Disney's control over a comprehensive development agreement at its 25,000-acre Florida resort.

CNBC has more:

The federal lawsuit alleges that a campaign to punish Disney over its political views was “orchestrated at every step” by DeSantis and now threatens the company's business.

The move dramatically escalates the drawn-out feud between DeSantis, who is expected to become a top Republican contender for the 2024 presidential race, and Disney, which is among Florida's largest employers.

The lawsuit called that action the “latest strike,” saying the development contracts “laid the foundation for billions of Disney's investment dollars and thousands of jobs.”

“The government action was patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional,” Disney alleged in the civil complaint in U.S. District Court in northern Florida.

Earlier this year, Gov. DeSantis signed a new law into effect that strips Disney World of its self-governing status. (RELATED: Florida Governor Signs Bill Revoking Disney's Self-Governing Status)

The bill, HB9, renames the Reedy Creek Improvement District, where Disney World is housed, to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. Under the new law, the park may only have term-limited members who are not recent employees or have been contracted by Disney in the past three years.

Disney has recently faced intense criticism over its increasingly woke ventures.

The company recently announced mass layoffs.
