Justice Department to File Redacted Affidavit From Trump Mar-a-Lago Search

-

On Thursday, the Justice Department is expected to propose extensive redactions to the affidavit used to obtain a search warrant to conduct the recent on former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart, who approved the warrant for the raid gave the Justice Department a noon deadline to submit its request, however, it's extremely unlikely it will lead to the immediate release of the affidavit.

On Monday, Judge Reinhart wrote in a memo that he was inclined to make parts of the document public, saying it would “promote public understanding of historically significant events.” (RELATED: Judge Willing to Partially Unseal Affidavit From Mar-a-Lago Search)

However, government officials have cautioned against publishing unredacted versions of the affidavit over concerns witnesses will face retribution from Trump supporters and jeopardize the investigation into Trump going forward. DOJ officials have also noted the document is “very detailed and reasonably lengthy” and that the matter's “national-security overtones” outweigh the public's interest in having it made public.

According to The Wall Street Journal:

“Particularly given the intense public and historical interest in an unprecedented search of a former President's residence, the Government has not yet shown that these administrative concerns are sufficient to justify sealing,” Judge Reinhart wrote in the order, which set the Thursday deadline.

He has said he would assess the government's proposed redactions, and if he deems them excessive would propose his own redacted version of the document, giving the government time to appeal his decisions.

“This is going to be a considered, careful process, where everybody's rights, the government's and the 's, will be protected,” Judge Reinhart said at last week's hearing. No timeline has been set for that process.

Also on Monday, Trump's legal team filed a separate motion to appoint a special master to review the records obtained during the search. If granted, the motion would block the further review of seized materials until a special master is appointed and will require the Justice Department to provide a more detailed receipt for property and the prompt return of any item seized that was not within the scope of the search warrant. “ALL documents have been previously declassified,” Trump said in a statement. “We are demanding the appointment of a SPECIAL MASTER to oversee the handling of the materials taken in the raid,” Trump said in a statement on . “We are further demanding that the DOJ be forced to turn over a REAL, without ‘plants,' inventory of my property that was taken and disclose where that property is now located.”

  1. WHAT DO THEY ACTUALLY HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH???
They make themselves look like fools and never able to close a deal. What next??? Not much left to choose from.

    • The illegal American government just sell our oil reserve to china,,,,,,ohhhh,,,,,, but ran thru hunters company??????????? WTF is wrong with these low life’s

  2. Notice that the judge was concerned with the government’s rights, the media’s rights- but no mention of Trump’s rights.
btw- I’d guess that the FBI is desperately looking to find and destroy evidence of their illegal activities, going after Trump for the last 6 years. This is dangerous territory for our country.

    • They must not have copied everything yet so they are still working on delaying things. The citizens of this country have a right to know just what our government is doing, especially since it involves a former president. This whole mess will most likely end up in front of the SCOTUS, which of course the left wingers don’t want to happen.

      • The F I B along with biden really f’ed this up. This is a perfect example of why you do not want a thief to steal the election, but it took thousands to pull this off with the help of domen ion

  3. This is all bulls*#t. We “The People” are the masters of this country not the DOJ or the Courts. We have the right to demand to see if this raid was substantiated by real evidence or by so called anonymous and unverified made up informants. Saw this plenty of that in my law enforcement days done by detectives.

    • joe’s in deep dodo, along with hunter. What company sold America’s oil reserves to china with the help of another (2nd in my life time, joe was an illegal vp also, illegal American government??????????? Could it be hunters???????

  4. Why not unseal the whole damn thing? But we know the motive: to publicly embarrass and humiliate a good and upright man, with a despicable rider: to bar him from seeking political office. But we will neither swallow it nor stand for it. Even Hillary told us once upon a time that GJT would make a good president because he is honest and he cannot be bought. ‘Oft evil will shall evil mar.’
