Republican Texas Representative Brandon Gill accused Democrats of employing “intimidation tactics” over immigration policies, classifying immigration enforcement and its supporters as racist, relying on emotional blackmail. Speaking on Fox Business Monday, Gill declared that “Republicans are done playing this racist game,” and that the Democratic manipulation of the issue was no longer effective.
Gill previously launched a petition to deport Democratic Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar, after news surfaced that she coached Somali immigrants, including those in the U.S. illegally, on how to evade U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Omar, a member of Congress’s so-called “Squad” with progressive views, responded to the allegations during an interview on CNN, where she claimed that every individual in the U.S. has constitutional rights, regardless of their citizenship status.
In a video that gained traction on social media, Omar suggested that Somali individuals, including those unlawfully in the United States, should not answer ICE’s questions and should instead state they had been advised by a lawyer not to provide personal details such as their immigration status or mode of entry.
“I advise the Somalian people that if ICE attempts to question you, you are not obligated to answer their questions,” Omar said, according to English subtitles provided in the video. “Just state you were advised by a lawyer not to answer questions. Disclosure of your name, immigration status, and mode of entry is not mandatory. Learn the laws and prepare yourself and refrain from disclosing information that you would prefer them not to know.”
On The Evening Edit, hosted by Elizabeth MacDonald, Gill continued his outspoken criticism of Omar, condemning her actions and comments while accusing her of prioritizing the interests of illegal aliens over those of American citizens.
Gill’s comments were a direct rebuttal to Omar’s defense of immigrants and her suggestion that her critics were motivated by xenophobia. He doubled down on his position, accusing Omar and other Democrats of facilitating an invasion of illegal immigrants under the Biden administration.
For many Republicans, including Gill, the issue is tied to national security and the safety of American citizens, who are increasingly vulnerable due to the influx of illegal immigrants under the Biden administration.
“We have illegal aliens right now murdering and raping and pillaging our people with virtual impunity, and that is because of lawmakers like her who are facilitating this invasion,” Gill continued.
In the lead-up to the 2024 election, immigration remained one of the top three issues consistently cited by voters in polls, with many expressing frustration over the Biden administration’s handling of the U.S. border and immigration laws. President Donald Trump’s campaign heavily focused on this issue, promising to restore stricter border controls and continue his efforts to limit illegal immigration. Trump’s position resonated with a significant portion of the electorate, suggesting that Gill is right about voters rejecting accusations of bigotry, refusing to be swayed by them. His hardline policies, including building the border wall and enforcing tighter immigration enforcement, played a key role in not only galvanizing his base but winning over swing voters, leading to his decisive victory.

Omar and the rest of the Squad should go to the countries that they are so radically supportive of and leave this country. We don’t want them here. I’m convinced that is the only reason they exist. All they do is stir up trouble, and we want peace, just exactly what our wonderful President fights for every day of his life. They along with many others in our government lie, cheat, and steal from those of us who love America, and we hate it.
