Governor Wins Respite Amid Border Battle – Will It Last?

-

A federal judge has delivered some respite to Gov. (R).

The chained buoy-barrier system Abbott had installed in the Rio Grande to deter illegal migrant crossings may remain in place at least through the end of August.

The ruling from U.S. District Judge David Alan Ezra is the latest twist in the Justice Department's legal battle against Abbott's ongoing border operation. Ezra has given Abbott's attorneys until August 9 to formally respond to DOJ's request to remove the water barrier. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 22. Texas will have 10 days to dismantle the barrier if the judge rules in DOJ's favor. (RELATED: Texas Jurisdiction Caught Charging Innocent Victims Of Crime)

The conservative blog Hot Air explains what's at stake:

Besides the fact that the has no interest in securing the Texas- border, DOJ is kowtowing to Mexico. Mexican officials have registered complaints about the buoy barrier and the use of razor wire along the border to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the state outside a legal port of entry.

Governor Abbott deployed a 1,000-foot-buoy barrier as part of his effort to secure the border and stop illegal immigrants from crossing the river in the Eagle Pass area. International human rights organizations jumped in to complain that this is dangerous and is a drowning risk to illegal immigrants. Mexican officials protested alleged violations of international treaties that govern the river which goes for 1,200 miles along the Texas-Mexico border. That's a 1,000-foot barrier in a 1,200 mile long river. Spare me the drama.

The sad fact is that the humanitarian crisis caused by the Biden causes people to drown in the river without the buoy barrier. The barrier is a way to prevent the drownings by discouraging the illegal immigrants from crossing. Two bodies were found in the river Wednesday, one allegedly stuck in the barrier.

Governor Abbott's office quickly pushed back on this narrative. The buoy barrier didn't cause one of the people to drown.

Abbott's office issued a statement Thursday afternoon:

The Mexican is flat-out wrong. To be clear, preliminary information points to the drowning occurring before the body was even near the barriers. The Texas Department of Public Safety previously reported to Border Patrol the dead body floating upstream from the barriers in the Rio Grande. Also, DPS monitors the barriers for anyone attempting to cross and has not observed anyone attempting to cross since they were installed,” the governor's office said. “Unfortunately, drownings in the Rio Grande by people attempting to cross illegally are all too common. As was reported in early July before the marine barriers were installed, four people drowned trying to cross the river.

  1. Anybody think about just introducing pirahnas into the river? A very good deterrent. No razor wire, either.

  2. The turd world nation of mix a hoe is stupid and needs to shut up, it needs to put up a fence across it borders where the nasties are coming in!

  3. It’s unfortunate & at the same time very fortunate for me to read this article. Earlier I gave some hesitation about razor wire in the water. Mostly in case flooding obscures its placement. Some thought about ‘Well, no one with legitimate cause should be there anyway” gave me some soft argument in favor or the barrier. Reading the facts of it discouraging people from attempting to cross illegally enforced my favoritism for it. Upon recalling of drownings from years ago when reading of the previous drownings, I am now convinced it’s a double benefit. It benefits people by not taking the very possible loss of their lives chance by illegally crossing a international boundary as well as protecting the innocent people on the American side. No one should have to live in fear of criminals robbing, raping, killing or kidnappings due to an uncaring ‘representative’ of its own citizens. In this case, our non-elected president.
