Report: Two Shot Outside of New York Gubernatorial Candidate’s Home

-

has made its way to Americans' doorsteps, literally.

On Sunday, two men were shot outside the home of Republican Rep. .

In a statement, Zeldin confirmed his two 16-year-old daughters Mikayla and Arianna were inside the home at the time of the shooting while he and his wife were traveling by car after a Columbus Day parade.

“After my daughters heard the gunshots and the screaming, they ran upstairs, locked themselves in the bathroom and immediately called 911. They acted very swiftly and smartly every step of the way and Diana and I are extremely proud of them.

“The two individuals who were shot were laying down under my front porch and the bushes in front of our porch. My understanding is that they have been transported to area hospitals. I do not know their identities.

“My daughters are shaken, but ok. Like so many New Yorkers, crime has literally made its way to our front door. My family is grateful to all who have reached out and we will provide another update when we can.”

The Suffolk County Police Department responded to the scene and is handling the investigation into the shooting. Detectives are investigating the drive-by shooting as gang-related and were still looking for the gunman or gunmen, according to reports from The New York Post.

Zeldin, who is currently running for governor, has made rising crime a cornerstone of his campaign. While addressing the incident Sunday evening, Zeldin said this shooting only serves as a grim example of the rising violence seen throughout the country.

“I'm standing in front of crime scene tape in front of my own house,” he said while standing beside his family. “You can't get me more outraged than I am right now.”

“I just don't wanna ever stand in front of crime scene tape outside of my own home or outside of anyone else's,” he said. “There's a lot to do.”

Governor Kathy Hochul acknowledged the incident in a tweet Sunday but did not acknowledge Zeldin's remarks on rising crime.

  1. No society can exist where people in power allow lawless and senseless acts of violence against others. There must be a price for breaking the law. Justice must be fair to all and swift. We cannot let anyone rich, or poor be victimized with no repercussions.

  2. Welcome to corrupt Hochul’s NYS. There is something fishy going on, this is not coincidental. When her political opponent can’t be safe, neither can be the rest of us. It’s time to give her a boot. Remember in November.
