Biden’s ’60 Minutes’ Interview Sends White House Into Damage Control

-

President Biden for 2024? Not so fast.

While President Biden has said for months he intends to seek a second term in the White House now it seems that plan has been put on hold. During an interview with CBS' “60 Minutes,” the president declined to say for sure if he will run again.

While attempting to appear as if his mind isn't already made up Biden also cited federal election laws as a reason he hasn't formally announced his next presidential campaign.

“In terms of election laws,” Biden said, “it's much too early to make that kind of decision.”

“Look, my intention, as I said to begin with, is that I would run again,” Biden responded to Scott Pelley. “But it's just an intention. But is it a firm decision that I run again? That remains to be seen.”

However, while Biden is in all likelihood planning to run for a second term some Democrats have made it clear his age is a major concern, Biden will be 81 years old when the next presidential election occurs. While Biden is naturally prone to stutters his repeated blunders on the world stage have triggered responses from both sides of the aisle. Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson (R), who served as the White House physician through the Obama and Trump administrations, has repeatedly called for Biden to submit himself to a cognitive exam.

“Every time he gets up and talks to the American people, it's not just the American people that are watching him speak, it's the whole world, and that's part of what the problem is here,” Jackson said to Fox News. “He looks tired, he looks weak, he looks confused, he's incoherent, and it sends a message of weakness all over the world, and they're seizing up on that.” (RELATED: New Poll Shows Even Many Democrats Worried About Biden's Mental Health)

That concern seemed to sink into Biden's “60 Minutes” interview when Pelley asked Biden about the criticism that he was too old to be president.

“I respect the fact that people would say, you know, ‘You're old,'” he added, “but I think it relates to how much energy you have and whether or not the job you're doing is one consistent with what any person of any age would be able to do.”

Pelley then asked how Biden would evaluate his “mental focus.”

“Oh, it's focused,” said Biden.

“I no more think of myself as being as old as I am than fly,” the President continued. “I mean, it's just not — I haven't observed anything in terms of — there's not things I don't do now that I did before, whether it's physical, or mental, or anything else.”

However, it wasn't just Biden's election comments which raised eyebrows, now the White House is being forced to play damage control for Biden's rhetoric regarding COVID-19.

During the interview, Biden declared the COVID pandemic is “over” prompting responses from both sides of the aisle over the administration's mixed messaging.

“The pandemic is over. We still have a problem with COVID, we're still doing a lot of work on it, but the pandemic is over,” Biden said.

Conservative commentators took issue with Biden continuing to use his COVID emergency powers despite declaring the pandemic over.

“Left wingers are going to be furious at him for this, but this is also interesting because less than a month ago he justified canceling a trillion dollars in student loans by citing his covid emergency powers,” OutKick founder Clay Travis tweeted late Sunday.

Liberals derided Biden's comments as irresponsible and premature.

Dr. Lucky Tran, a science communicator affiliated with Columbia University, wrote, “After complaining for two years that it's the ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated,' the President did maybe the single worst thing anyone could do to lower vaccination rates: prematurely declare the pandemic is over.”

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan voiced his disdain with the claim as well, writing, “One of the (many) reasons [people] are not wearing masks is because people like Biden keep (falsely) telling them the pandemic is over.”

  1. Well of course the pandemic is over. THERE NEVER WAS ONE! I’ll bet his handlers are going, WHAT were we thinking? Although I believe they created a new pandemic with the jab. The next 2 years will expose the truth of the JAB. It doesn’t look very promising.

  2. God help us if Biden’s handlers are going to present him for a second term, and somehow they get him to win, along with the democrats keeping control of both the house and senate. That would pretty much finish off of our constitutional republic. He’s been nothing but an embarresment to the country pretty much since since he was sworn in.

  3. Biden and/or his puppeteers may be smart enough to realize that as soon as he says he won’t run in 2024 he immediately becomes a lame duck and his administration is finished.

  4. Behind the door, whoever is running this show, has already told this puppet, no you are not running again. This act is over.

  5. biden is a disaster. he has done nothing right. they have to be blind or dumb. i have ased people why would any one vote for him. the answer is am a dem. he has put millions of people below the poverty line, not handled one problem correctly and insighted hate. why, why, why.
