Jane Fonda Announces Cancer Diagnosis

-

Controversial Academy Award-winning actress has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The 84-year-old film icon became a lightning rod for controversy when she traveled to Hanoi in 1972 to protest the Vietnam War and was photographed seated in a North Vietnamese aircraft gun used to down American planes. After the two-week visit, she dismissed allegations of torture against U.S. prisoners of war, saying those making the claims, from the Nixon administration on down, were “hypocrites and liars and pawns.”

The trip earned her the nickname “Hanoi Jane.”

In the decades since, Fonda has expressed some regret for her words and actions, particularly the anti-aircraft gun photo.

Fonda has already begun chemotherapy and will continue doing so for several months.

further reports on Fonda's prognosis:

“This is a very treatable . 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky,” the “Nine to Five” star wrote.

“I'm also lucky because I have health insurance and access to the best doctors and treatments. I realize, and it's painful, that I am privileged in this,” she added. “Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another and far too many don't have access to the quality I am receiving and this is not right.”

Fonda also noted that the cancer is already teaching her lessons.

“Cancer is a teacher and I'm paying attention to the lessons it holds for me,” she wrote. “One thing it's shown me already is the importance of community. Of growing and deepening one's community so that we are not alone. And the cancer, along with my age –almost 85 — definitely teaches the importance of adapting to new realities.”

  1. Can’t say I feel too sorry for Hanoi Jane. The story does not mention the fact POW’s gave her notes to take back to their families and she turned them over to the Vietnamese guards. No can’t feel sorry for her at all.

  3. That’s right, lots of us have had cancer and trouble paying all the bills. Took me a couple of years to get it all paid back even though I had insurance for most of it. But I didn’t use it to promote a political agenda. Wouldn’t mention it now, but somebody has to. If nobody complains, people like Ms. Fonda and Biden will think it is ok to make everything about politics, like the true Marxists they are. Although Biden is running in the fascist lane lately, but accusing everyone else of fascism. I wonder if he really knows what it means?

    • I’m sure he does. The more fascist the Democrats become, the louder they accuse everyone else of being fascists. Two things are going on here: projection and misdirection.

  4. She is getting her KARMA. I bet that a lot of Vietnam Vets are happy, especially, the soldiers that she did wrong with.

  5. Hopefully, Veterans will be able to start lining up soon. A lot of coffee in the line to ensure full bladders. At least for those Agent Orange hasn’t taken yet.

  6. I’m a Vietnam vet. I have no respect for Jane Fonda. She chose a terrible role for herself. I think what she did was treasonable.
I understand that as part of the human condition we can all be faced with health challenges at any time but I cannot take pleasure in anyone’s suffering whatever my opinion of the person. I may pray for her, but not sure what that prayer will be. Maybe I’ll leave it up to the Lord; he knows what we all need.

  7. That so-called woman has been a cancer to the US for decades – can’t say I feel very sorry for her since it has now invaded her ugly self. As the old saying goes – ‘Be careful what you say as it just might come back to bite you.

  8. She is learning what most of us learn by 40
    Unfortunately

And I say that as a cancer survivor.

    No torture. Yah sure.

  9. She is responsible for many deaths and Torture by giving the POW’s notes to the North Vietnam Prison Guards! No sympathy from me!

  10. I was at the Main Gate at Fort Hood, Texas renewing my pass to enter when she showed up. She wanted to go on base and protest. It was a closed base at the time and you had to be registered to enter and have a sticker on the bumper of your car to bring it on base. The guards explained to her that she could not go on base without registering herself and her vehicle. They offer to escort her to the main MP station to fill out the forms for a background check and show proof of her insurance on the vehicle. She refused and after several minutes of arguing she left. After watching the show where the consensus was the impression she left was she was Super Special and did not have to follow the rules everybody else lived by.
I believe she should have stayed in Hanoi.

  11. Prayers for Jane. Hoping her treatments work well. I pray that the Lord will send someone into her life to show her the Way to eternal life…Jesus Christ. And that she will learn how to lean on Him in this time of turbulence in her life.

  12. Those notes she turned over to the North Vietnamese guards cost POW’s severe pain and suffering. I hope she suffers worse than all of them combined for the rest of her miserable life.

  13. Finally, the only thing I wanted to hear with her name attached was stating her death or pending certain death. She lived too long – and only the good die young.
