NYC Mayor Gets Fact-Checked By X Community Notes Following Strange Haiti Claim

The Community Notes feature has gotten the best of New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

In light of the recent political and civil unrest in the Caribbean nation of , posted on X – formerly Twitter – that New York City was called “the Port-Au-Prince of America,” likening his own city to Haiti's capital.

X users quickly noted that no one had ever made the statement prior to Adams.

The New York Post noted that “when asked for comment on the Mayor's post, a city hall spokesperson said, “It's a shame that the Post is focused on a link to a Wikipedia page instead of Mayor Adams' efforts to support those in Haiti and New York who are struggling.”

Newsweek also noted that “as of 2022, almost 731,000 Haitian immigrants resided in the U.S. and composed the country's 15th largest foreign-born population, according to the Migration Policy Institute.”

is the state home to the most Haitian immigrants, with New York taking second place in that ranking.
