Voting technology company Smartmatic has subpoenaed two of former President Donald Trump's closest allies, Michael Flynn and Steve Bannon, as part of its massive lawsuits against Fox News and Newsmax over disproven claims of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election.
The subpoenas require both men to sit for depositions and answer questions under oath. In addition, Bannon has been instructed to turn over subpoenaed documents to Smartmatc, including communications with Fox News executives, the Trump administration and Trump's reelection campaign.
The depositions for both men are tentatively scheduled for this week, though that may change as negotiations play out.
CNN reports:
Trump allies Michael Flynn and Steve Bannon have been subpoenaed by Smartmatic as part of the voting technology company's massive defamation lawsuits against Fox News and Newsmax over their promotion of 2020 election lies.
Court filings made public last week in New York and Delaware indicate that Flynn and Bannon were hit with subpoenas, demanding that they sit for depositions and answer questions under oath. The depositions were initially scheduled for this week, though timing can change based on negotiations and other developments in the lawsuits.
Bannon is also required to turn over subpoenaed documents to Smartmatic, including any communications with top officials from Fox News, the Trump campaign and the Trump administration about the 2020 presidential election, according to court filings.
…
Smartmatic's lawsuits against Fox News and Newsmax are part of a constellation of pending defamation cases stemming from 2020, when former President Donald Trump and many of his Republican allies falsely claimed that the Florida-based company and other entities rigged the election against him. Smartmatic is seeking $2.7 billion from Fox and an unspecified amount from Newsmax for disseminating a “continuous stream of falsehoods that harmed Smartmatic and negatively impacted the company's business,” it said.
Attorneys for Flynn and Bannon have yet to respond to requests for comment.

Looks like the 1st Amendment is on the rocks and needs a good lawyer to defend any who err regarding its effectiveness. Democrats are active experts at dodging the 1st and filing lawsuits against any who criticize anything. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s a common error or if it seems to be true. If a conservative isn’t perfectly correct, money is due.
